What a dive!! We checked in on Sept 4 for two nights. The room was dark, musty and very dated. We had to unplug a few things to get outlets to charge our phones. In the bath room you had cobwebs in the corner, mold on window curtain, towel was stained and you had to wash down bathtub to get rid of gnats that had fallen from the ceiling. The ceiling light in main room looked light it might fall off. Beds were comfy. Out side there were beer and that sat there from the time we checked in and were still there as we checked out two days later. All this for the price of $150/night! Motel 6 is better and that’s not saying much. I don’t know how this place get such high marks but I’d recommend someplace else
ok to stay a night

The front desk closed at 7pm, but we came late, I phoned to them, they said they will leave an envelope with my room keys and information to me. It’s better to phone to them if you come later than 7pm, but if not, they will still leave the envelope to you. I didn’t see the staff, as the front desk has closed when we came, but through talking on the phone, she is nice. The room didn’t have phone available to use, but it’s not a big matter to us as we seldom need to use phone. The room has fridge and microwave, The pillows and bed are comfortable. But the room is not spacious. It’s ok to sleep, but it’s rather expensive, over $100 a night (with tax), and no breakfast is provided. It said no breakfast due to COVID-19, but we stayed in other motels or Inn, they still provide breakfast, and some are full breakfast as well. Anyway, if there is no breakfast provided, they should lower the room rate, over $100 per night without breakfast is too expensive for a motel. We need to spend money on buying breakfast in nearby café. There is a tiny outdoor pool, and it said open from 9am to 9pm, but even when after 9am, the gate is still locked, may need to ask staff to open it? It said there is heated pool, I am not sure if there is another indoor pool or this outdoor one is already the heated one? But as the gate is locked, I can’t go in to feel the water see if it’s warm or not. There are some attraction nearby as it is a rather small town, the visitor center, clock tower are within 1 min drive. The Spearfish city park and D. C. Booth Historic national fish hatchery are also nearby, within a few minutes drive. I also include some of the attractions photos to post here.
Great little place to stay!

We were traveling on our way home from vacation and decided to stop in Spearfish for the night. This motel was perfect for our one night stay! the outside pool was just right for our kids (7 and 2). The room was plenty big enough for our family of 4, it was clean and staff was very nice and helpful. I would stay here again in a heart beat. If you are looking for a good place for the night, but don't want to pay the big bucks...this is the place. Location is great also!
Bed Bugs and Shady Management
Reviewed 25 july, 2020
I stayed here on July 22, 2020. Great check in and looked like a clean place. At 2:30am I was woken up by 2 bites on my face. I stripped the bed and found bed bugs and other insects under the pillow, on the floor, and on the carpet. I went to the office and there was a sign saying ring the Ring device for after-hours service. I attempted to ring the Ring device for about 30 minutes, along with calling the phone number with no joy in contacting management. At 3:00am I returned to my room and removed my belongings to prevent the insects from entering my luggage. I pulled up a chair and sat outside the lobby for another 2.5 hours trying the Ring device and phone number, hoping to reach management and get at least some sleep that night. At 5:00am I left one last message on their answering machine then left Spearfish. I recieved a call hours after I left, sometime before lunch. The manager said that sitting in front of the lobby was "bizzare" and I "should have gotten a room somewhere else" if I couldn't reach management. This is not a solution when a guest has a problem at your establishment, and frankly it's poor business management. I left a review on Google immediately after I left, to prevent anyone else from dealing with thebed bugs in my room. Management replied to my Google review and attempted to make me out as a shady individual who roams the grounds at night. Going so far as to say I "disturbed the other guests" by waiting by the lobby for someone to show up. Was I supposed to stay in my infested room all night until management stumbled in sometime in the late morning, after leaving the property unattended at night? Also, I doubt I disturbed the other guests with my sitting because I can tell you that I was the only one there. Management can't say the same, as they were gone and unreachable for the entire night. This business is extremely shady, and I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Please feel free to contact me if you would like additional photos, videos, or testimony about the bed bugs, insect, and poor management of Bells Motor Lodge. Stay away!
Great room and budget friendly for the area!

We’ve stayed here twice before and the price is good. Traveling through on our way to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We just want a clean and comfortable room. It hasn’t disappointed. New ownership took over last October, I think that’s when. Anyway it does seem they are upgrading the place. We had enough plugs for our stuff and the TV was huge. Wish baseball was on. She recommended the Las Cabos Restaurant and that was excellent as well. Best burrito J’s ever had. With the Covid19 crisis, she was very conscientious of cleaning the pens and door handles. They have ice handy in an outdoor freezer, already bagged for you. That was nice.
