More about the hotel
Fabulous hotel
This hotel is a wonderful place to stay while in St Petersburg. The room we had looked out over the park. The restaurant is great, the rooftop bar is a lot of fun, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming.
Very nice but WAY TOO LOUD
The staff are nice and the hotel is very nice but it is way too loud if you intend to sleep before 4am. Most rooms have windows in the foyer where The Canopy empties from the stairs and the elevator. We stayed on a Saturday night. No sleep until 4am. Explanation from the front desk the following morning: We can’t control the noise. Pretty disappointing.
Nice Place
It's a nice boutique hotel, rooftop bar has great atmosphere & views. My wife & I stay here a few times a year, some might consider it a little pricey, but the location is great, we walk to everything! Friendly staff, nice rooms & very relaxing.
Very nice but.........
We arrived around 9:00 pm for the start of a four night visit. The valet parking was a bit confusing due to conflicting services for restaurants and the hotel but we figured it out with some help. The front desk agent greeted us with a warm smile and a genuine welcome to The Birchwood. We received our key and information on the hotel and surrounding area. We inquired about eating diner and were told the main restaurant closes at 10:00pm but the roof top bar serves until 11:00. We had heard the Canopy bar is a special place so we decided to eat there. The place was packed with millennials and gen Z patrons due to Ladies Night. It was very loud, we had no place to sit except at the bar, which was not a bad place to sit. Our bartender/server we very helpful. We did not want bar food and the full service restaurant was closing in minutes. He showed us the menu and we ordered quickly. The food came up pretty fast and was tasty. Then we went to our room for the night. First impression, large, spacious, clean and well appointed. However, the street noise and music from the bar below and above was pretty loud and made falling asleep difficult until it stopped. We had agreed to an upgrade in order to have a view of the sunrise. We did face East but we were on the 2nd floor across from a waterfront park with lovely trees which blocked our view of the sunrise, disappointment # 2. We had early morning appointments a 40 minute drive from the hotel. We were informed breakfast would be served at 7:00am. The three days we went down for breakfast at 7:00am, not once was it out until 7:15am or later. Disappointment #3 was the breakfast itself. The choices were, bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin or French toast. Both were individually wrapped in foil. They did have breakfast energy bars, yogurt, bananas, and juice but I have had much better breakfast offerings at hotels half the price. For what was offered, why it couldn’t be out on time is concerning and not the same thing every day. Other than breakfast and the late night noise our stay was enjoyable. The hotel is in a great location with all major attractions, Dali, Pier, restaurants etc, walkable. The valet service was efficient but the front desk agent was the person to park and retrieve your car. This left the desk unattended for a long time, which we experienced on Sunday. The restaurant hostess should be cross trained to help the waiting guests.
Can't wait to go back!!!!
I'd give 10 stars if I could!! Service was immaculate - courteous, kind, etc. I left behind a necklace that is very important to me - not only did they stop to check, but they kept me notified every step up until they found it - they'll be mailing it back to me at no cost!! I'm sending them a gift card, I cannot thank them enough. They were able to provide a mini-fridge to my room - again, at no additional charge. Beyond THAT, the hotel itself is gorgeous - THAT!!! TUB!!!! The room was simultaneously spacious and cozy - so unlike the usual sterile/clinical hotel. Beds were comfortable, everything was clean, the rooftop bar was lovely. I can't say enough about how wonderful The Birchwood and the employees are. Also, the location was amazing - within walking distance of the water, parks, and 643 other restaurants.
