Make Sure You Ask About the "Cancellation Policy"

Was really looking forward to a nice, kid free getaway to Staunton for the weekend, but a family emergency prevented that from being able to happen right before we were supposed to check-in. I called Jeff to ask if we could push the reservation back a few weeks instead of completely cancelling the trip and utilizing their "Cancellation Policy." I was told it was absolutely not an option. Maybe it is my fault for assuming that the "Cancellation Policy" was going to be a fee that was only a portion of the booking, because a dollar amount is not mentioned anywhere on their website or on my booking confirmation (normally it would be a night of the stay or something like that). Word of advice to Jeff and Sharon, if you're going to OFFER a "Cancellation Fee," you may want to state that it is the entire price of your stay...or completely eliminate it because I do not see the point of having one if it is not a "fee," but just paying for the whole thing. Really bummed, the place looked cool and we definitely would rather be there than where we have to go last minute...but we sadly will NOT be finding out in the future.

We were able to check in and stay without encountering any other people which was very welcome during the pandemic. The hosts were in contact with us via email and provided useful information. The space was decorated in an industrial modern style and was very clean. Bed super comfy, full kitchen with all dishes, glasses, utensils we needed. There was easy street parking right out front. Excellent location for the charming town of Staunton. Could walk easily to coffee shops, restaurants, stores. The shower was very good. The hosts provided fun snacks, too!

The Gibson’s Warehouse is a wonderful place to stay & get away for a weekend. It was so clean, bed was comfortable, full of amenities, & great value for the price. Location was excellent. We will be back!

A very comfortable stay

There is a lot to appreciate about Gibson's Warehouse (GW). This boutique hotel only has four rooms. My wife and I were in room #3. GW is across the street from the Staunton train station, and less than a five minute walk to the heart of the historic business district. First, the room is enormous, easily the size of a studio apartment. The king size bed was very comfortable. The living room area has two very comfortable chairs placed in front of a very large (55"?) TV. We were able to attach a HDMI cable from the TV to my laptop, and watched several movies. The kitchen is also very well equipped. Besides the usual dishes, silverware, etc, the kitchen has a large fridge, a built-in microwave, a full dishwasher, and a coffee-pod brewer. The bathroom contains a large shower and good sized vanity sink. There were plenty of towels. Finally, there was a good sized desk in case you actually had to do some work. I do have a few notes, which could make GW even better: 1) Because we didn't know how to use the dimmer switches at first, we were unable to use the lights attached to the ceiling fan. A note at check-in could have helped. 2) While there is storage space in the walk-in closet, a small dresser would have been greatly appreciated. 3) The room would have benefited from a box of tissues. 4) While the kitchen was well stocked for coffee drinkers, there should have been either some tea-pods or tea bags. 5) The kitchen cabinets are located pretty high up the walls. While not unusual, a small step stool would have been greatly appreciated. 6) The cleaning service used by Jeff & Sharon needs to be a little more careful. We found several hairs in the kitchen sink, and we found an M&M on the floor when we had to move the small ottoman. Please don't take this information the wrong way. My wife and I were very happy with our stay, and as the price was moderate, we do plan to stay here again.

Special Place to Stay in Staunton

What a lovely and surprising discovery to find Gibson’s Warehouse condos in downtown Staunton! The four condos are part of a slightly larger building in a charming row of buildings on Middleton Street, just a block or two down from the main Streets. For us it was the perfect place to stay during these trying times. All our communication with owners Jell and Sharon was through email. They sent us a confirmation, then shortly before our stay, a code. With the code, we could open the front entryway into a welcoming foyer and then with another code we could enter our condo. The condo was spacious, clean, had windows overlooking the town in back and was provided with basic equipment for cooking and dining, a full refrigerator, a Keurig with plenty of coffee and cream, sanitizing wipes, ample toilet paper, and an extremely comfortable bed. There was a nice sitting area with two comfortable chairs and also a kitchen bar area with tall stools. We had brought our own dinner to heat and were very happy with this stop. We plan on returning when things open again and we can walk around and enjoy the many interesting shops, winery, Shakespeare Theater, that Staunton offers. We would highly recommend this wonderful place with its attentive hosts.
