One night stay passing through
Reviewed 21 october, 2021
This is OK for a night passing through, if you have a travel coupon. It probably would not be worth the rack rate or internet rate. The room was typical, but seemed to have a bit a musty odor. The breakfast area did not have the good cinnamon rolls, that we have to expect from a HI Express. When asked about the attendant said that the truck had not come. HI Express should never be without cinnamon rolls, This is like Dairy Queen being out of ice cream.
The bed was comfy!

We stopped here because it was 1/2 way on our trip to Snowshoe, WVa. I'll start with the Pro points: The room was clean. The bed was very comfy. The shower was hot. The hotel was quiet. The lady that greeted us (when we came in at 10 PM) was super friendly! We stayed in Room 223. The Cons: the room is old and in DIRE need of updating. The bathroom door looks like a wild animal was trapped inside and tried to claw its way out. The AC was on, but could not be turned up or down. The remote turned the TV on, but would not change channels (we had to do it manually on the back of the TV). Normally the Holiday Inns we stay in are much nicer, but again, this wasn't so bad. It served it's purpose in the ways that mattered most!

....Really impressed with the wide open, bright, colorful, AND modern first impression lobby...really refreshing and inviting. Then there was the front desk wonder Julie who was so pleasant and caring...The people, well they make it. Also impressive was the beautiful-personable-"colorful" lady named KIM who later worked the front desk....then follow that up with a Miss Destiny..and you've a SLAM-BANG!! The only real drawback that MUST BE addressed is the pool area...only one (1) table and that hadn't been cleaned in a long-long time --NO umbrellas....just NOT inviting...Miss Vanessa-this needs attention. Breakfast was really good AND made even better by a lady named Debbie who ,if not replenishing was a busy bee cleaning and ensuring a healthy dining experience...That a.m. lady NEVER quit. We only hope this place DOES NOT start slipping...right now it IS tremendous....right KIM?? We did very much enjoy it. Steve and Barbie B. - Elmira, NY
Just one problem after another

I like Holiday Inn Express hotels. And I've liked this one in previous stays but no more. Check in was not fun and a chore. The room had a dirty bedroom floor with pieces of some fruit skin on rug that housekeeping didn't bother to clean up. Bathroom floor looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks -- dirty footprints on floor and other grime. Breakfast next morning was lacking to put it mildly. Arrived in breakfast room -- about a dozen people there and no coffee and there wouldn't be any for more than 25 minutes. When it did arrive, it tasted like ti had been brewing way too long. Also there were no cinnamon buns ( a specialty that HIE advertises), the pancake machine was broken, and there was about a 7 minute wait for more scrambled eggs, no forks and spoons, no coffee stirrers (without requesting them more than once). Now I understand that COVID has created problems for hotels but clean rooms, trained employees, and a the basics of a breakfast are not too much to ask. Will not be staying here again.
Very dirty! Read all the reviews before booking.

We should have read the reviews of this hotel more carefully. This holiday Inn Express is a franchise and not corporate owned. We have been pleased with this chain in the past and most recently at one in a different town the day before we checked in here that was excellent. This one and it’s poor service reflects badly on the whole chain. It’s an older hotel but that’s no excuse for the lack of cleanliness. We reserved a king room for the upper floor and found they are only on the first floor. Upon entering our room I could see surfaces were spotty and hadn’t been wiped. I pulled back the covers and found multiple hairs on the sheets. Yet the hotel posts everywhere how committed they are to cleanliness. The hallways are dirty, the grounds are not taken care of, and many things are in disrepair. We marched back to the front desk, reported our findings and had to take a room with double beds. Went to that room to find the AC didn’t work and neither did the TV. Again we marched back to the front desk and we’re given a third room. This one was tolerable. AC and TV worked and it was cleaner. Of course we were told we’d be transferred to a suite the next day but I don’t think this place has suites and wouldn’t have appeased us anyway. We were given entry keys that had to be reprogrammed every afternoon when we came back to the room. The keys were never in contact with anything magnetic which the staff kept insinuating. We did not encounter any staff we would want managing anything. They spent too much time in the front of the hotel smoking or eating from the breakfast buffet. The women’s restroom in the lobby was out of order for 3 days, the lock on the side door was broken and we were told to just put a rock there to hold it open (so much for safety), and a guest was observed coming to the lobby one day and getting a plunger for their room. The last day there I found a dead cockroach laying on the side but on top of the buffet. Future guests, beware!! Don’t spend your money here.
