Stopped at the George as the result of a split second decision at the end of a very long drive .glad we did the room ,staff and food were great couldn’t fault anything or anyone for a most enjoyable night and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Cosy, comfortable, clean. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The locals are just the same. It has that typical English village feel. The rooms are exactly as described and the bar services are great. Big selection of drink and the food is all cooked to order.

Shame no staff turned up for breakfast

I stayed one night. Room was fine, and the noisy ventilation fan (for the kitchen?) was switched off before too late. Dinner was good, even if service was a bit slow - but I wasn't a rush. The problem was the next morning. When checking in, I booked breakfast for 8 am, but when I went down all the lights were off and no staff were on the premises. I waited half an hour, then gave up,left a note and left.

A 3 night stay over Xmas. The booking was for a king-sized bed, it was a deal breaker so carefully chosen. I even telephoned beforehand to ensure it would be so & this was confirmed. Arrived Xmas Eve to a complete muddle. The room allocated to us wasn't ready, you've been given an upgrade to lovely family room says one person, no you haven't says another. We ended up with a standard double bed & three uncomfortable nights. The breakfast order they had asked for in advance was not what was requested but on the last morning there was none at all! Three times we went down but the place was deserted. Three times we telephoned but no-one answered. We're an older couple & left for a 4 hour journey home. En route home the owner rang my mobile in response to the missed calls which he thought was for a future booking. When I explained who we were he waffled with lies and excuses which was insulting. Blamed his staff for every mishap. People with so little care & consideration should not be in the hospitality industry. Shameful!

Staying with friends who live opposite the pub, we ate at The George on Saturday night. Great menu… good choices but small enough that you know they are properly sourcing and preparing the food. Between us we ordered baked Camembert to share, game faggots, venison and pheasant. All were beautifully presented hearty plates packed with flavour. All very reasonably priced. Really high quality. They also do a good pizza on Tuesdays and Thursdays I’m told. The chef and team did a fantastic job. Highly recommend.
