An absolute dream come true...unless you have back problems

My husband and I love Wheatleigh... over the years we have stayed there both during the summer and in the winter. It's a magnificent property and well worth the cost. still, starting about 5 years ago, I began to develop severe back problems. The beds at Wheatleigh, though made with luxurious linens, are harder than cement. The first year I noticed it we were staying in a beautiful Junior Suite, and after taking a huge dose of ibuprofen, I was unable to sleep... truly, I was in agony. Two summers later we returned and this time stayed in a standard room. As soon as I sat down on the bed I remembered the agony of my experience. For those several nights, I asked for extra pillows which I had to place between the mattress and the bottom sheet. Now, we still go to Wheatleigh, but I have to travel with a foam mattress topper, purchased especailly to stay at this hotel (my husband's very favorite). This might seem like a silly thing to complain about...unless you have back problems. I'm surprised when other's write about the comfortable beds. For me they are about as soft as concrete. My husband and I are world travelers (well, at least pre-covid) and I have never ever slept in such an uncomfortable bed in my life. It doesn't stop us from going to Wheatleigh...but there is a part of me that resents having to purchase a 4" mattress topper in order to make sleeping habitable.

My husband and I visited The Wheatleigh in January and so far it’s the best hotel either of us have ever been to. January is a strange time to visit the Berkshires but we wanted a mini vacation without traveling far (Covid), and The Wheatleigh was incredibly beautiful and peaceful. The hotel itself is a gorgeous old estate, very tastefully decorated and elegant. We booked the junior suite and it was large and comfortable, with a fireplace, large bathroom, sitting area, and balcony (would be great in the summer). But what really sets Wheatleigh apart was the service. I haven’t stayed in many hotels of this caliber so perhaps this is expected, but the attention to detail and customer service was impeccable. When we first arrived the concierge helped us out of the car and greeted us by name. Whenever a staff member saw us they greeted us by name, even if we hadn’t encountered them before. They remembered that I ordered tea to the room in the evening and suggested it when we got back the next evening. Overall it was a perfect visit, not a single complaint.
We can’t wait to go back!

Everything about our stay was perfect. The ambiance and service couldn’t be better. The staff were very attentive. Our room was lovely and they had a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon arrival. We appreciated that nice touch. We highly recommend this beautiful property to anyone who wants a relaxing & pampered experience.
this is by far the most excellent culinary experience in the Berkshires. Cannot wait until they are again open

Presently the Cafe Boulud at the Blantrye is open but does not come close to the quality, elegance and warmth of the Wheatleigh. A lovely building but warm and welcoming staff, never arrogant, always attentive. you will see by the photos below
Best hotel I've ever stayed at

My wife and I have stayed at some of the finest hotels and this is the best, bar none. Why this is not the #1 hotel in Lenox MA is beyond me. The property is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the staff has the unique ability to make you feel like family and a kind at the same time. Special thanks for Danielle and America. Hope to see them again soon (as does our daughter).
