How is this a 4* hotel?? Really not good.

Reviewed 5 december, 2021

Visited for works Xmas party, and found that the room was £225 for the night. Hones, if I wasn’t paying, I would have checked out as soon as I got to our room. Staff on reception were not very welcoming and just said “room is down the corridor”. Walking down the corridor to the room, paint was peeling of the walls, carpet was dirty and frayed, doors were all worn and paint peeling. We got into the room and the radiators were not working and neither the air con. Mould and mildew on the bathroom tiles and sealant, cracked and peeling paint work, worn out dirty carpet chipped and peeling paint work. Then there was the shower, can only stand under it if you are under 4ft tall and don’t mind you skin melting off. The shower was not much more than a dribble and was either scaling hot or freezing cold. I ended up having to use the main shower for the hot water and the hand held shower on cold. Then there was the bar. Again the staff were just not really interested and I had to repeat my drink order several times. We sat at the only available table and it had not been cleared and stayed uncleared for about 30mins while we were there. Multiple staff members walked passed Looked and just ignored. This was the same with 3-4 other tables and the bar staff, when not serving, were hiding in the room behind the bar. They were either totally obvious, not trained or just didn’t care. Eventually someone came a cleared the cups and glasses but left spoons, sugar packets, spoons and 2 plates. Didn’t even wipe the table down. On the positive, the food was good in the bar, the Xmas meal was pretty decent for a large organised meal the bed was comfy and the breakfast was very good and served very quickly. But again, apart from the lad who took our order (we did have to ask though if we could order) the rest of the services was not great. Overall, the only positives were the food and comfy bed, the rest of the stay was extremely poor, especially for £225 a night. You would get a nicer room, better facilities and more attentive staff from a Travelodge or Premier Inn for less than half the price. The website and pictures are extremely misleading and show probably the only decent room. I fail to see how this hotel is a 4*. It is in desperate need of some basic maintenance and some paint/filler would make a massive difference. It really does needs a star rating review.

Disappointing Spa Break

Reviewed 28 november, 2021

Booked a two night spa break with friends, two out of the group never received the correct treatment in the spa and this wasn’t corrected when it was pointed out, just an apology, the other members of the group had the same treatment but only in name as it was vastly different for each of them. Very worn out hotel in all areas including the spa. Spa had a draughty door covered with tatty curtains in the “relaxation area” which was opening in the wind and was letting the rain in. The relaxation chairs were old and worn out as were the bathrobes left in the rooms for spa break guests to wear. Rooms had lumpy beds and draughty windows, and were very run down. The whole hotel was consistently freezing to the point guests sat around with coats on, we were told “we only turn the radiators on for a few hours of the day” by two members of staff on separate occasions. Receptionist with blonde hair and glasses was extremely room to several of our group at different times of our stay, other than that we found the majority of the staff were pleasant. The one positive was the hotel is only a short walk to the town centre but be aware even as a guest you are charged £7 a night for parking in the hotel car park.

Overpriced let down from the start

Reviewed 28 november, 2021

Not set in a remote location. Photos very misleading. I know we should have checked. We booked a super delux room last minute. Big mistake. Over priced, small, noisy room. Poor quality breakfast. Over priced bar, no table service. You have to pay for parking too! It’s not a proper spa either. Bedside lights dirty/ damaged. Damaged window taped up. Shower head faulty so no pressure. The room was in the coach house. Be warned of steep stairs to get to a low ceilings and that you can hear the rooms above. It was nearly £300 for the night!!! I know !!

A good few days

Reviewed 27 november, 2021

A good experience, all in all. The morning and evening restaurant team are particularly friendly and helpful. The food is generally of a good standard, loved the breakfast croissants! The evening menu is limited and if you’re staying for more than 2 nights, the choice of four main dishes gets tiring. That said, the food is good and nicely presented. I used the pool ((warm!) each day and had a spa treatment- both very good. The hotel’s public areas are on the chilly side and in parts dated and tired. Some areas did not appear to have been cleaned in the time we were there.
