Wonderful countryside hotel
The Ivy House is set in peaceful surroundings next to Oulton Broads. There are lots of country walks available directly from the hotel, which is a 10minute walk from Oulton Broad South railway station (on the Ipswich to Lowestift line). The hotel is also only a 10minute drive away from Lowestoft, a coastal town well worth a visit. The hotel has extensive grounds to wander round including a charming pond area. There are a variety of rooms available - we stayed in a 'Courtyard room' which was very spacious with comfortable beds, a large flat-screen tv with freeview, tea and coffee making facilities and excellent wi-fi. The bathroom, too, was very spacious with a deep bath tub, a separate powerful shower and plenty of free toiletries.There was plenty of hot water available. All the staff were amazingly friendly and professional (despite finding out they would have to close for 4weeks because of Covid19).The meals we had there were first class with excellent breakfasts including "Full English", eggs Royale & eggs Florentine, porridge, yoghurt etc... The menu in the evening was also excellent - while we were there we had mozzarella &tomato salad, smoked salmon encasing a hot salmon mousse, pork tenderloin with lots of veg, salmon with veg, seabass with crayfish risotto &a wonderful roast beef Sunday dinner along with desserts of vanilla rice pudding &creme brulee! Covid provisions were excellent -all the staff were covered up, there was a one-way system operating throughout the hotel and hand sanitizer at many locations in the main barn, where the restaurant is located. This barn is wonderful -real 'olde England style' and a magnificent setting for a meal. Thoroughly recommended!
Visit to ivy hotel
We stayed at Ivy Hotel last week for 3 days. It was brilliant. Somehow we got the honeymoon suite which was beautiful with a view to Oulton Broad. The room was very clean. The dining room is lovely with very friendly and efficient staff. We particularly enjoyed the interaction with Emma and Angie but they were all great. The food was very good. It was great to be able to walk onto Oulton Broad from the hotel. The covid 19 security made us feel safe.
A LITTLE DATED
The Ivy Hotel is located in a fabulous location in relation to the Oulton Broads, with an easy walk to get to the water. We had a Courtyard Room Room 8 which was a little dark but comfortable. Was surprised to see the old style trouser press and discoloured cream wall mounted hair dryer, but in working condition. Bed very comfortable. The evening meal was of a high standard as was the breakfast. Wine a little pricey by the glass. Great wedding venue, as restaurant area fully beamed with pretty twinkling lights.
Fantastic weekend break
Excellent hotel with rooms arranged in a selection of former farm buildings and new builds, some with views out to the water. Comfortable beds and everything spotless. Really friendly and helpful staff with special mention to Leeya. Dinner and breakfasts of high quality served in the spectacular crooked barn restaurant. Countryside walks on paths at both the front and rear of the property means that you could spend a couple of days here without using the car. We WILL be back.
Great 3 night stay
We purchased a voucher through travel zoo which included a generous allowance for a meal on the first night. We had a lovely spacious room which was very comfortable. The meal on the first night was so good we ate there every night. (Fillet steak was awesome) There's a lovely bar area for pre dinner drinks and the restaurant is really nice and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with enough choice. The hotel is very covid friendly without detracting from the enjoyment of it. Its set in nice grounds and you can walk to Oulton broads, but its also a good base to explore the area. The town of Southwold was a great recommendation from a member of staff and is worth a visit. They had quite a few guests in the hotel and this added to the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.
