My wife and I came here for sometime and the place is simply amazing. Every part of it is well maintained and marvelously designed. You can come here and enjoy walks, tennis, golfing, food—all without leaving the location or driving much. Of course all those who come here know it’s relatively expensive and pricey, but it’s wonderful.

I am not sure when I have stayed at a better hotel. Almost everything was nearly perfect. We had a king suite overlooking the ice skating rink, and enjoyed watching the skaters-young and old-practice. The suite came with a see through fireplace, and although we were there in June, we had a couple of cold nights and enjoyed the fire in our room. The workout facility is very well done with a large assortment of machines and weights. The spa is beautiful. The staff was considerate and very professional. We intend to return next year for an encore visit!
Iconic location in beautiful Sun Valley, but new decor is hard on the eyes, and sad for the soul.

The Sun Valley Lodge was built to look like European ski lodges in places like Switzerland and Austria. The decor was European elegance, and country charm. For those of us that have been visiting Sun Valley for 40+ years, the new decor was disappointing, if not devastating. The designer decided to update in a Pacific Northwest and Western style, with big slabs of stone, modern cowboy and cow pictures, and cow hide pillows in the guest rooms. My dad played piano in the Duchin Room (bar), and seeing the new bar was sad. They took an intimate, charming, elegant room, where people danced the night away to jazz trios, and removed the dance floor, stuffed a piano in the corner, and turned it into something like you'd see in Arizona. The thing that is most confusing are the giant photographs of vegetables in Gretchen's restaurant. On a positive note, the food in Gretchen's is fairly good, with a few "off" days of overcooked salmon etc. (see other reviews). They also expanded the patio and outdoor seating, which takes advantage of the beautiful views of the ice rink.
Amazing Customer Service

I am staying in a condo that is connected to the lodge for several weeks and need to shout out how great the staff are at the Sun Valley Resort. In particular, Pia Girdler, has gone above and beyond to ensure that my stay here so far has been excellent. From the moment we first connected a few weeks ago, she and her colleague Rachel, made sure everything was taken care of for me. They are a five star team.
I would also like to point out that the resort is doing a fantastic job ensuring the safety of its guests with all things related to COVID.
Fabulous week in Sun Valley!

The lodge is really a special place. While at first glance it may appear that it lacks some modern frills, it more than makes up for that with its charm and history. I had an upgraded king room with a pool view that had a separate seating area, two smart TVs, a giant bathroom with soaking tub (this was a godsend as I did not feel comfortable using the hot tub during covid), and a walk in closet!! The closet alone was reason enough to stay here, such an overlooked luxury in many five star establishments. This is an historic 100 year old building, but it has been lovingly restored while maintaining the charm of a bygone era. The lobby is very cozy with giant fireplaces and a live piano player nightly. I enjoyed the vintage style cocktails and I found the food to be delicious. The service was slow but this did not bother me, I like leisurely dining. It’s important to note that while this is the premier hotel in Sun Valley, it is not ski-in/ski-out. They have chauffeurs who will take you anywhere on demand so this distance did not bother me either. While this is certainly an enclave and definitely geared toward adults, if you enjoy world-class skiing and a more European-style après ski scene, then this is your place!
