Old, needs a lot of improvement

The rooms need a lot of cleaning and replacement of materials used. The breakfast was too bad. Very few choices, I ate boiled potato and 2 types of fruit. The next day, I went out to look for local food

Clean and tidy rooms
Reviewed 11 march, 2016
Another large tour bus hotel with the usual lack of choice in the restaurants. The main restaurant was in the lobby and was another all-inclusive buffet which was hopeless if you just want a snack. I chose a simple sandwich from the room service menu and was charged another 20% for delivery. A free cocktail was included in the booking however this was simply insulting as it did not include 9 of the main 10 cocktails on the list but another one made up with sprite and a splash of house vodka in it. We asked for anything else and were declined. This is also just a ploy to get you down two flights of stairs to the crummy bar which is like being in the cafe at the bowling alley. You're better going across road to 7-11and having a party in the room. It was cold outside but even colder in all the corridors due to having the air-conditioning on. They just do not seem to understand personal comfort in these places.

Used and Abused

This place needs a serious overhaul as everything seems tired and worn out. For the price we paid to stay in the Starlight double, I was expecting something A LOT better. Both my wife and I were quite disappointed. Honestly the only thing that was a positive in the whole experience was the tub on the balcony. Everything else reminded me of somewhere in between a Motel 6 and a Super 8.

Talk about a Cyclist' Hotel!
Reviewed 23 april, 2014
First hotel I've stayed in that's really catered for cyclists! Each room has two bike racks! (see picture), and a section in the room with flooring appropriate for bicycles. Wifi works well - free and strong, in lobby and each room. Limited English channels on TV, but with strong wifi, can get good online content. Breakfast selection is very Asian. e.g., Hard boiled eggs, soy bean milk, etc. There'a Family Mart 24-hour convenience store right across the street to get basic supplies.

Does not cater for single travellers
Reviewed 20 december, 2013
I stayed at the Naruwan in Taitung as part of an organised tour. The room was comfortable - though english language instructions for the japanese-style kettle would have been good. Basically this hotel caters only for groups of mandarin-speaking travellers and is quite inflexible in meeting the needs of any other customers. There were no options for the single diner except for the rather pricey buffet, which fellow travellers who started their dinner earlier did not recommend. The chinese restaurant only caters for larger groups and will not sell serves designed for the single diner. So I ate at the 7-11 out the back of the hotel for 57 NTD (about $A2). The breakfast room was extremely crowded. The spa has only mixed bathing facilities so you need a costume to be able to use it. I would not willingly stay at this hotel again, and certainly consider the prices advertised on the room door to be extremely poor value for money.
