Comfortable stay at good value

Reviewed 28 july, 2020

The hotel is newly furnished and quite modern inside. It feels dry and does not have the mildew smell like many other hotels in the area. The rooms are comfortable and equipped with a tea kettle, a small refrigerator and a TV set. Wifi is included and it works fast. The onsen is very clean and pleasant but quite small for the hotel of this size. The washers and dryers in common areas work very well and you can have your clothes washed and dried in 45 min which is quite convenient if you are traveling over several days. The Japanese style breakfast is tasty and reasonably priced at ¥880. There is plenty of parking in the front and a Family Mart right across the street. The staff is friendly and many staff members speak good English.

Outskirts of town

Reviewed 6 june, 2020

It's my fault for not upgrading to a superior room because the standard rooms are very small. That said, it was well designed and used every available bit of space. The small double bed was pushed against the wall so not ideal for 2 people. Luckily the corridor/space beside the bathroom was quite wide so I was just able to open my large suitcase. There was a nice light duvet on the bed and hard/seed pillows. The bathroom was compact but allowed for a deepish bath. The air conditioning was powerful. There was a TV but there were no English tv channels. There was a small armchair to sit in and a table, a desk/dressing table, a stool and various ledges to put stuff on. There was no in room safe. The breakfast was ok. Self service with cereal and rolls as well as a lot of Japanese choices. My room was on the ground floor and there was parking outside. The hotel provided a shuttle to get to the town centre which was convenient but allow enough time to find the bus stop for the return. I very nearly missed it because I couldn't make sense of the map provided (you had to go inside the train station and up and over the railway tracks to get to the right bus stop!). It was perfectly adequate for one night but if I was to return I'd chose a hotel in the centre of town so that restaurants and shopping/sightseeing is easier to get to.

Nice and Cozy

Rooms on two floors only. No lifts. The rooms were very comfortable. The biggest advantage of this hotel was the hot springs Spa inside the hotel. After a lot of walking and sightseeing, the Spa was a 100% gem for our aching body. The service staff were helpful and kind.

Pleasant stay

Reviewed 29 may, 2019

I had a standard double room for three nights. The room was small but generally well-designed, with, for instance, clothes hanging space on one side of the entryway and a large drawer on wheels under the bed (which I thought was pretty cool). A chair by the window and a padded stool at the desk. When the stool was pulled out it did abut the bed which wasn't ideal. There was a small table (not bedside), but nearly everything had to be on the desk - tv, jug, clock, tissues, food etc - it was a bit tight. The tv was large however, and the wi-fi was good. Despite the small space the fridge wasn't too loud and there was little noise from outside. The bed was comfy with good pillows. PJs which could be worn around the hotel (quite a few people wore them for breakfast) and slippers were provided. The room's decor was quite nice but there was no artwork. The individual air conditioning was excellent, worked well, easy to operate. The bathroom was a reasonable size. As I was on the ground floor in a middle room there was no view to speak of - partition then the outside of someone else's room, however I expect upstairs rooms would have views of the surrounding townscape and countryside. The included breakfast was enjoyable and all the staff were welcoming and helpful. The foyer area was large and attractive, with a small range of souvenirs for sale. The laundromat was great - inexpensive and with accurate timings (ie 30 minutes=30 minutes not some strange approximation of it). Because I had a foot ulcer I didn't use the onsen but saw people exiting looking relaxed. Via the tv it was possible to check whether or not the onsens were busy. I was not using a car while in Japan and the hotel is a fair way from Takayama downtown, station and main sights, but the shuttle bus is reliable and the drivers kind and friendly. On one occasion I was the only person on the shuttle and had a nice conversation in English with one of them. They do drop off guests at Old Town/morning market on the way to the station if required. These stop/s still leave plenty of time to catch the Wide View Hida (the shuttles' timetables align with Hida arrivals and departures). Overall a pleasant stay.

Clean, comfortable and friendly

Reviewed 14 april, 2019

This hotel is fairly new and that shows in all the fresh, clean decor. The reception area is spacious and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If they were struggling with English they went to find another member of staff. The room was fairly small, like all Japanese hotels, but clean and comfortable, apart from the pillows which we had to change. Breakfast was good-the usual mixture. The area is lovely with plenty to do in the few days we were there. We also went on an amazing bike trip in the neighbouring town of Furukawa with Satayama experiences- highly recommended. The only slight down side was that the hotel was out of town, which we did know in advance. There is a minibus with friendly drivers but they are not at regular times. Sometimes there are 2 an hour but sometimes there is 1. It would be so much better if they were 2 an hour all day at regular-ish times. We came unstuck with the minibuses twice: once we accidentally went to the east instead of west exit and once we missed it by 5 mins then had an hour and 15 to wait. All our own fault of course, but something to watch out for. After a long days walking and sightseeing we didn’t really want to catch the minibus back into town in the evening so ended up getting sandwiches from the Family Mart across the road. I didn’t use the hot spring baths as it always seemed quite busy. All in all, a relaxing and comfortable stay.
