Book a city view room, not river view!
The best thing about this hotel is the location. Great to just cross the road and hop on the boat to the beach every morning. The rooms are clean and functional, however I have never stayed in a hotel with such thin walls/doors. We are heavy sleepers but were kept awake by doors shutting, talking in hallway etc.. We paid extra for a river view room but asked to be moved to a room at the back which was much better, although still a bit noisy. It's not even as though it's a party hotel, people weren't making excessive noise, you can just hear every single tiny movement! Definitely book a city view room - they also have balconies unlike the front rooms.
Lovely run hotel very helpful staff
Stayed here recently for two nights, the hotel is centrally located just next to the ferry terminal. Can't say enough about the staff,so friendly so accomadating ,nothing's to much trouble ,due to the Covid situation and the cleaning of the room we were not allowed to book in until 3.00pm .we arrived at 11.00am with 4 suitcases ,we were allowed to leave them under the stairs until room was ready at 3pm.The same when we were leaving, we were moving on to another destination but not till later in the day ,We were allowed to leave our cases until we were ready to move on which was so nice of them. had bed & breakfast which was continental style but was very good. They have a restaraunt attached and we were given a 10 % discount for evening meal,We ate one night in restaraunt ,We had a Sea bass meal for two ,it was excellent and good value ,Although the drinks were a little on the expensive side,9.50euros for a gin & tonic,5 euros for a large beer, the room was very clean.Overall would strongly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying here again.
A Lovely residence in an excellent location.
Residential Mares is a typically run Portuguese family friendly hotel with aNorth African flavour with a modern make over.Situated right on the banks of the River Gilao The rooms comfortable and clean and the family are very helpful with the usual Portuguese friendliness .The attached restaurant which doubles up as a breakfast room is excellent with good service. The location is ideal for access to the ferry to the beach and to the Old town of Tavira with its many churches restaurants, bars and cafes
5 DAY STAY
If we ever go to Tavira again we will stay here again. Really friendly and welcoming, comfortable in a traditional portuguese way. All the complimentary reviews we read are true. Nothing too much trouble.
Good location, decent budget price accomodation
This hotel is older, fairly dated, but I knew that going in. I got a room facing the river with a balcony. It was a convenient location, right near the ferry to the island, but also short walk to all restaurants, shops, and historical sites. Lovely park to sit and relax less than 5 minutes. The bed was comfortable, and nice bedding. The staff was all very pleasant. But, given that its older, and probably because of it's proximity to the water, I did notice what looked like mold in the corner of the room near the floor on the outside wall. The bathroom was ok, not great. All in all, for the price it was ok, about what I expected.
