Quite satisfactory
The Hotel, definitely, has seen better days and it dominates the horizon of this beautiful city of Taxco. The bed was on a concrete structure and yet, we were able to sleep satisfactorily. The toilet was dark and could have received greater attention. At night, it seemed as if the stars had come down to adorn the city because homes are built on the flanks of mountains. Long and winding roads but the trudge is well worth it because, this is, indeed a beautiful city. Good breakfast but the dining room becomes very crowded.
Greta views of the City, good location
We were with a tour group and stayed for one night. The hotel was in a great location overlooking the town. There were great views from all the rooms in which the group stayed. We were fortunate and had a large suite (Room 139A) on the top floor, but other rooms were smaller, but were of a reasonable size. The room was clean and comfortable. There was no lift, but staff carried our cases up the many stairs. The water in our shower was only just warm, after a long wait for it to heat up, but some others had no problem. Breakfast was very good buffet. The main square was a pleasant walk through a narrow main street threading through the buildings. It was a great little town or village with friendly people. We felt very safe walking to the main square. There were a number of restaurants within easy walking distance. Three of us went to Aldino’s Pizza and had great pizzas, served by very pleasant and helpful staff who readily communicated with us in English.
Attractive, friendly option
This hotel is much better than some of these reviews suggest. Many types of accommodations are offered, including economically-priced rooms high up, with balcony and amazing view. We stayed in such a room, which was basic but clean and comfortable. Typical of many Mexican hotels, the beds consist of a mattress on top of a concrete pedestal. This makes them harder than a lot of people prefer but after a day tramping around this hilly, high altitude city, few will have trouble sleeping. Air conditioning or at least a fan would provide a more comfortable room in warmer weather, which is April to November. The beautiful pool and poolside terrace with are among the hotels strongest features. Far from finding staff unfriendly we found them helpful and accommodating - even calling after checkout to let us know of items left behind in the room. NOTE: It would be impossible for mobility impaired people to use this hotel because of the many, many steps. If you can climb a few steps some of the rooms are semi-accessible, but there is a full flight of stairs to go down from the lobby to the restaurant where breakfast is served. It appears the buffet breakfast is included in most room rates. Frankly it’s nothing special but was quite acceptable and staff are friendly. Check out the allusions to Taxco’s mining history in parts of the hotel.
Just awful
I’ve stayed at this hotel on and off for 40 years and always loved it. We were checked in by an unsmiling man who wanted us out of the way asap as two coach-loads of eastern europeans were arriving. We were lucky to just slip in before them. This used to be a well run and fashionable hotel, but those days are long gone. There was no drinking water in our shabby room, we had to walk up the street to buy it, as after being ignored for 20 minutes in the bar (while the coach-loads were fed) we gave up trying to get a drink altogether. The toilets by the bar were disgustingly dirty, which fact was met by a disinterested shrug at reception. None of us slept, the coach-loads sang loudly outside our window, dogs barked, there was gunfire, and church-bells every 15 minutes ALL night. We were down to breakfast (included) by 7:30 but the coach-loads had beaten us to it, there was no food left, and what little there was looked absolutely disgusting and unappetizing. We grouchily checked out without breakfast. The hotel website states there is wifi, but don’t mention that it’s only in the cold uninviting lobby, not in rooms. This lovely old hotel still has potential but is clearly suffering from from lazy management and bad attitude. Shame on them!
In need of a bit of TLC
We were 3 friends visiting, the hotel is conveniently situated to see the town of Taxco. The reception and lobby area are dark and cavernous, the reception staff are very slow so things can take a time. We had inside rooms so we were in the old part of the hotel. The rooms smelled damp so we had to keep the windows open. They are very basic inside no bedside lights and poor lighting, the TVs are very old with fuzzy pictures, when I got a remote control it did not work. The sink in my room was a replacement it was tied in with wire and bits of wood. The grouting around it is all cracked and loose, no excuse. We had no hangers, basic requirement. Only one of the three showers worked properly the others had a trickle. The towels were really old and in very poor condition. There is a decoration of poinsettia plants in the very entrance of the hotel. The poor plants were just dying from lack of water. Could no one see that , or even care. The ladies toilets in the lobby area had doors like the Wild West saloons so no privacy! The breakfast was ok, the restaurant had good views of the city. It is possible to buy coach tickets from a kiosk in the lobby for the coach to CDMX and the coach stops at the hotel.
