More about the hotel
A big letdown. Would not stay here again.
The good things: The bed was comfortable, it was fairly quiet. There was a small refrigerator and microwave oven in the room, along with a Keurig coffee maker. There is a fitness room (but missing some hand weights that I would have used). WiFi was good. The average: the breakfast had a few choices such as yogurt, muffins, oatmeal and a few other simple items; some of which could be heated up in the microwave in your room. The location is just average. There's not much that you can walk to from the hotel, but surprisingly there's a Starbucks that's about a 10-minute walk away. You'll need to drive about 2 to 3 mi to get to most restaurants and shops. Also regarding the location, the hotel is actually located in Temple Terrace, not in Tampa. It's a very long drive down to Tampa to see the things a typical tourist might want to see while in this area. Also traffic can be bad at any time of day. The not good: My room was just depressing to be in. At night time the room was dimly lit because of the very low wattage energy saving bulbs they use. The carpets had several stains. The sofa looked like it was about 20 years old because the fabric has been stretched and it is also stained. The deadbolt on the room's door did not operate properly (it doesn't latch so provides no protection). The desk needs to have its screws tightened up as it sways from side to side if any weight is put on it. They have apparently disabled the HDMI port on the television which means you can't use a Chromecast or Roku device to watch your own TV shows. You're stuck with the typical cable channels that they offer. No written or on-screen guide for the channels is provided. Regarding health during the covid epidemic: I saw 2 front desk employees not wearing masks at all, and a housekeeping staff member with the mask pulled down on her chin. They have attached a device to the window in my room which makes opening the window impossible; not even a few inches. This is very disturbing considering we are in the middle of the Covid epidemic, when fresh air is of utmost importance. Who knows when the last time is that someone was in the room (and were they even wearing a mask)? I would have left after the first night but I had paid a non-refundable rate for three days so I just had to endure it. I was very happy to leave and I would not stay here again.
Disappointing
We have stayed at Holiday Inn Express in other cities and enjoyed them. This one was not up to standard. The room was acceptable, except for stains on the carpet, and what appeared to be a false fingernail stuck to one of the bedside tables. The mattress was very soft, and the shower seemed to be old and the water temperature was extremely difficult to control. It was too hot. The whole room could use a new coat of paint. The invisible front desk staff (we had to wait quite a while for someone to appear) was handing out grab-and-go breakfasts, a minimal selection of muffins, cereal, and granola bars. The desk clerk suggested the cafe next door would be open for breakfast, but it wasn't. The app that was supposed to let me check out digitally wouldn't connect, and the once more invisible desk staff was not there when we tried to check out. I left the room keys at the desk. Later when I checked my credit card statement, I saw they had charged $30 more than the cost of the room, and then later credited me with $30. Overall, I would not stay here again.
Disgusting experience
My husband and I stayed December 28, 2020. The room was dark and dingy; carpet was filthy; lights in bathroom and room did not work; bathroom tiles were laying there; the towel rack was protruding from wall. No breakfast was provided as advertised. Absolutely the worse experience at a Holiday Inn Express! This place should be closed. I wish I would have asked for our money back
Dirty hotel with Filthy carpets.
I found this hotel in an unacceptable condition. The carpets have a terrible stench. They are dirty , very dirty and smell. Doors are stained . I was so uncomfortable, albeit arrived at midnight, used my coats and jackets as bed linens , did not use any of the beddings, feels dirty and dusty , booked a hotel nearby will get out asap, only slept two hours. Will complain to IHG , they cannot be charging for this awful place that would make you itch and develop a skin rash. If you care about comfort and cleanliness , I suggest you look elsewhere, I will not stay here again if they paid me !
Beware Booking This Hotel!
I booked this hotel for a stay 8/19-8/20. The reservation clearly states that I would not be charged until my stay. However, this morning, 8/4 the charge appeared on my credit card I called the number on the reservation listed as the front desk number and was told that all she could see was basically what was on my reservation and I should not be charged. To further discuss why I was charged, I would have to be transferred to the front desk which was the number I called. When she attempted to transfer me, I was disconnected. Be aware that you can have the charge appear on you credit card prior to the agreed upon date. This is additional stress no one needs at this time!
