I had hesitations booking here based on the reviews. But my travel bud and I wanted something more unique. And the online photos of the lofted cabanas convinced me that for two nights, I could finally realize my childhood fantasy of being a part of the Swiss Family Robinson. The place is easy to find. Secure parking was nearby, though I just parked on the street in front during the day. We got in at nine after a long day of adventures. Staff was friendly. Still guests gathering in communal areas. But we settled into our humble quarters. Unlike most rooms, ours was completely walled. Basic- full size bed, sink, shower, and bucket toilet with wood chips. (We opted to use a plumbed toilet by reception for our essential business). So the first night was a little rough. It is LOUD on the street below and other guests were chatty in other spaces till late. I was contemplating relocating to another place in tepoztlan we enjoyed earlier in our adventure. Then the sun came up, and I explored the grounds and multiple decks. And it was just eclectic and daring enough that I knew I wanted to stay. They have a kitchen and dining. We ate dinner late with other guests and the two white cats, entertained by DJ'd music and embibed with local beer and Pulque, a fermented agave beverage that made it very easy to sleep the second night. Final morning we sat and enjoyed breakfast and kitty cuddles on the deck. Food was good and staff were really engaging. Marie was kind enough to hang out our soaked clothing to dry for us. Ivan was friendly and had great energy and joy for his work/living arrangement. Everyone was awesome. Guests were a good mix and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We had wanted to have a temazcal session. Just ran out of time. Plus my bud got stung by a red hornet in the shower our final morning. (Hence 4 stars as they seemed to be aware of the nest just outside our quarters because a housekeeper said she had been stung the day before. I realize they are maintaining a balance with the natural environment, but there are surely ways to minimize guest risk while not massacring the little guys. This place for sure is unlike almost anything else. If you have an elevated spirit of adventure, give them a try. And please share your experience. I can't believe they don't have more on here.

Cool Experience

Reviewed 16 september, 2019

I read a lot of bad comments about this place, but I think depends the perception of the guest, isn´t a hotel and maybe that is the reason why, so despite the comments I visited this place was very very comfortable full of nature and very ecological I have stayed twice, and they have been the best experiences in Tepoztlan that I ever had, the food was completely vegetarian, could be strange for some people but price is average and you can taste different flavors. In general, it’s a cheap place and the staff was very friendly with me. The place isn´t near to the downtown I spent around 20 minutes walking, but you can take a bus or taxi from the hostel. Of course, during the night, you can find some insects on your room but its completely normal and they are inoffensive if you don´t have problems with you´ll enjoy your stay. They have ecological toilets but if you don’t feel comfortable using it, you can use the traditional too. This place its incredible, different to the others for new experiences.

will not return

To describe the place is difficult. A hodge podge of wooden barracks in a kind of neohippy atmosphere it is neither inetresting nor charming as it could be . Just expensive. Yes Tepoztlan has much better accomodation for a better price. For sure will not return.

Traffic and noise paradise

Reviewed 3 november, 2018

For £20 I was given a 1.5 m X 3 m tiny cupboard room where there is space only for a bed, no privacy at all as it's window all over, and on the busiest road... Traffic noise all day and night around, don't come here and be fooled by the words exo-paradise... Better under a quiet bridge. Also all rooms have basically no walls and you can hear anything loudly from other guests around you, literally no barrier,I could hear them breath I bed. I might have been unlucky with the room, but they should not charge for a hole like that, the same as other room (which I have but seen but I can imagine the noise level to be the same).. Not recommended(also not a nice distance from the city)

Three house recluse

Reviewed 16 january, 2018

Three house kinda place. Not to far away from the city. There are local buses passing by. You just have to tell them you are getting off at Horus. We are arrived in the evening the only people that were there were guest that didn’t know anything. The place has no locks. Very little security, people were coming and going. We got a room with a padlock door so we managed to keep our things secure. The place has enough space to relax and a kitchen for preparing food.
