Near Mashu river a good, spacious hotel
This hotel is around 1 KM from Mashu station but you wont mind walking of peaceful city of Mashu along with Mashu river. Rooms were very very spacious, clean and hygienic. Bathrooms amenities were upto the mark. Hotel staffs were helpful. you can enjoy quite and beautiful river just outside hotel area. I recommend this hotel for family as well as solo travelers. they provide you 24x7 hot spring facility at ground floor.
Old style Japanese hotel
We stayed for two nights and would've stayed longer if we didn't have to get to Kushiro. Hotel looks a bit rundown from the outside but is spotless inside with decent sized rooms. Courteous manager and a nice, somewhat quirky, old style atmosphere. Room was cosy and warm. Plenty of eating places and convenience stores within walking distance.
Best hotel experience in Hokkaido
My wife and I loved this hotel. Personal touch at the front desk and dining areas, excellent hot springs, excellent, spacious rooms. And the food was AMAZING. Very conveniently located if you have a rental car, but I believe that buses and taxis are also available to get to local sights. This is an old style family run establishment. If you are looking for an authentic experience and not a posh chain, this is it.
Very good experience; and very convenient for visiting Lake Mashu. The rooms and onsen are traditional. The breakfasts and dinners are excellent and justify the price. We emailed our JR station arrival time to them, and they were waiting in the station to transport us to the hotel. If you are in a party of two or more; it's worth it to have them arrange a taxi to Observation Point #1; instead of taking the bus. (The bus between the JR Mashu station and Lake Mashu makes two roundtrips per day, and the hotel is walkable from the station.)
We arrived in area without hotel accomodation but friendly locals at a coffee shop recommended this hotel. It may be older style but the huge room was immaculate, like the whole hotel. About to try the onsen, and after seeing the hotel, decided to try the breakfast. My husband and I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area. We are Australian but find it very homey as others have described. Would like to stay longer but will be back!
