More about the hotel
AirBnB (simplicity) + B&B (homely) + Family Care (warmth)
Rarely on my trips can I find a combination we’re booking is easy, inexpensive, and have the feeling of family warmth and personalized care. Thanna’s place was just that. Initially I was worried about the location but discovered that it was exactly where I wanted to be. Not too close to all the hustle and bustle of port of Spain but yet central enough where you can walk everywhere within 20 to 30 minutes and secure. Moreover the care that Anna provided was outstanding. She not only checked in on me regularly during the course of my trip but personally cooked breakfast for me to make sure I was well fed before I left. I cannot say enough about this place. I learned so much about Trinidadian hospitality, culture, history and politics just by merely talking to her. This was definitely one of the top highlights of my visit. If you want to know what this country is all about, then you need to stay at a place like this. A sincere thank you Anna!!
Home away from home
I booked this BB through expedia. I wanted a wallet friendly place as I was planning to spend a week at Trinidad.I chose this property as it is close to the embassies. I chose the room with a private bathroom. I also emailed the property to request for airport pick up. Kern the friendly driver was waiting for me with a smile and a placard even though the flight was about an hour late. He helped with my luggage and drove me to KFC for dinner before taking me to Thanna's place. We even shopped at a local supermarket for my supper needs of yoghurt and bananas. Kern paid in TT dollars and said he would collect the same in USD later. On arrival at Thanna's the boss was there to welcome us in. It was almost midnight by then. Upon hearing I have an appointment early morning and that I have to leave by 7am, I was woken up at 6.00 am and breakfast served at 6.30 am. Kern arrived at 7am and dropped me at my work place and asked me to call him when I get free. On the 18th of october, Kern and I drove to the multifeet high Hanuman temple and the temple by the sea. For the distance I think Kern charged a very modest rate. I went on walks to the cricket ground the world famous Oval at Savannah park from the BB on the other days. I walked to the national zoo and the botanical gardens from the BB and back. Mini shopping malls, food courts, movie theatres are all in the neighbourhood. With Thanna's the breakfast, the clean cozy rooms, and with a driver almost like your own, it was a home away from home experience. The drawing room and dining rooms were comfortable too. I have to say the wifi reception inside the rooms are poor, I had to sit in the drawing room to access wifi.
Same great treatment second time around
I stayed here in April 2017 for a work trip. I had stayed here before in November 2015, and I purposely sought this out due to my great stay the first time around. Anna, Abby, and Thais all remembered me and were just as pleasant and welcoming as before. Anna came several times and called to ensure that everything was going smoothly. Thais even saw me off around 4am for my trip to Piarco when I left. See my previous review for more on the location and amenities. Nothing significant had changed in the meantime. This is a great place for a work traveller or for couples to visit.
Cute and friendly
This is a sweet, simple family-run place with a nice warm, laid back feel. There's a sunny breakfast room and the whole place feels clean, airy and bright. Thais and Anna were very friendly and generous with useful advice and recommendations, going out of their way to make calls and set things up for me. The location, less than 5 min from the Savannah is excellent. Safety: it's not advisable to walk after dark in the neighbourhood, but as a lone female traveler I felt pretty safe inside the guesthouse which has external and interior gates. A reliable driver is important when safety is a concern and so I'd like to recommend Kern Mceachnie who was excellent. He was very friendly and welcoming, ferried me round for several days and ensured I was able to explore Trinidad and enjoy some delicious local food. Thais and Anna can connect you.
Feels like home
I spent 4 nights at Thanna's in June as a single young woman. I had to do some research in Trinidad and wanted a place that would not cost me a arm and a leg but still be located closed to the Savannah. This was definitely the greatest choice I made. Close to my departure date, I received an email asking me if I needed a driver or tour organizer. I used one of the driver they work with and he was professional, reliable and on time. He even stop to get me dinner before reaching Thanna in late afternoon. The welcoming was warm and Anna explained everything to em. Two other women were in residence at the time. It was so quiet! I felt like I had an entire house to myself. I worked on my computer in the lobby area, ate in the kitchen, and walked to the Savannah, bakery in Belmont, and restaurants as well on my own. I never felt unsafe. I walked until 7 pm outside. I had a room with bathroom. It was exactly what I needed. Super clean and simple. Breakfast waiting for me every morning was the highlight as I did not have to worry about finding something to eat before leaving for the day. Everyone was helpful, joyful and really cared about making you feel home. I had a set of three keys (front gate, middle gate and my room). Internet was not too powerful in my room, so I had to go just outside in the lobby area on the couch, but that was even nicer as I felt like I was in my living room. Anna's coconut and banana bread was delicious. I would come back in a hearbeat.
