Good nights sleep but breakfast could have been better
Been staying at HIE for most of our trip and it was amazing just how different each property and state was with requiring masks. The HIE in Springfield,Mo,Medical District was spectacular and went out of their way to give us service and a nice hot breakfast too. Now I understand each place is run differently but some were definitely better than others. Given that there is a pandemic going on, I would say, this property did what they thought was best and rooms were clean and fresh as was the lobby. They had their ice machines on second floor not a biggie. They offered hand sanitizer thru out the property. Front desk was efficient. Not a bad place to stay and close to I-40 so that was a plus, also close to fast food if wanted. Would recommend
Nice physical plant, inattentive staff
This is HIE in its newest incarnation-- modern, bright, spotlessly clean. But we found the physical plant to be much better than the staff working there. The mini-frig did not have a freezer element, so as we always do at HIEs in this case, we took our bags of dry ice down to the front desk to be laid over in the staff freezer. Only the gentleman at the front desk apparently did not know that dry ice will not freeze in the refrigerator (which, in any event, we had in our room), so it came back to us in the morning in a fully liquid state. As for the pool/hot tub area, it was open, but no one seems to have checked that the hot tub was functioning properly (it wasn't). And the worst sin of all? At 7:30 in the morning, there was no coffee to be had. In sum, this was not an experience that I would want to have again.
Spectacular
Well we came into town to see some family. The few times we had came into town we would hit and run so it was very nice 👍 not having to rush back home. I was very pleAsed and impressed on how nice and comfortable the rooms were. The courtyard was also another plus. We will definitely be back! It was very disappointed that the pool was not up and running due to Covid-19 but hopefully our next stay it will be. Thank you Holiday Inn for allowing us to stay in your great hotel and enjoy our visit with family and friends.
COVID-19 HOTSPOT!
If your vacation plans include employees that refuse to wear masks (despite the signs requiring them) and then become belligerent when you ask them to mask up, this is your place! These hotel employees are great hosts to the unwelcome guest, the Covid-19 Virus! Without masks, these employees will sit behind the front desk, wander through the lobby and into the elevator, and approach you head on. The cleaning crew, without masks, will walk the hallways and enter all the rooms. The breakfast lady will wear a mask but only over her chin, making sure that her germs enter your food and everything that she touches. The front desk clerk will become absolutely belligerent when confronted with her lack of mask and claim that she is not supposed to wear one and that all the employees decide for themselves whether or not to wear masks and that it is none of your business, that is-- you, the guest. Terrible customer service and a terribly dangerous place. Thanks Holiday Inn-Tucumcari for doing your part to make sure the virus always has a new host and never leaves the country.
Could be better...especially breakfast.
Pros: quiet, decent beds (except the pullout sofa, where the springs practically came through the mattress), fast food nearby, friendly staff. Cons: pool/spa closed which was expected due to COVID-19. Our biggest complaint was the “breakfast”. There was just a measly selection of tiny bowls of cereal, green “oranges” (bananas or apples would have been nice), only two types of muffins (one that contained nuts and we have a nut allergy in our group), something that resembled an omelet but didn’t taste like one, sausage that no one in my group liked (including my son who eats everything) and yogurt. Only milk or orange juice to drink. Not even coffee or tea. We stayed at the HIE in Guymon OK on 7/3 and their breakfast was much better than this HIE. They even had to-go bowls of oatmeal with single-serving containers of brown sugar, raisins or walnuts. Several different types of fruits and pastries, teas, coffee, several juices, omelets, scrambled eggs...the only thing you couldn’t do was make your own pancakes and waffles. I booked HIE on our way back home expecting the two to be comparable...not even close. I recommend the management of this HIE take a lesson from the HIE in Guymon regarding breakfast.
