I have never written a review. Due to COVID-19, our group was not able to travel. This was unprecedented, and when I called Hotel Calaluna for a partial to full refund of our funds, they hung up on me mid call. This is unprofessional and I will never recommend or ever book there again. There are many other choices and more professionalism in other stays throughout México. Hotel Calaluna is an embarrassment to other hospitality entities in México.
Horrible place and even more horrible service. Too bad. Could be great. Very ignorant.

Hello all! I have NEVER taken the time to write. A review like this. But the bottom line is this is a horrible place. We, like many others reviewing here and very laid back and accepting, the one thing I DO NOT accept is LIES! Back to that later. First of all like others say. Lots of bugs, this could be controlled by the hotel, but it’s not. The screens are broken, rooms not properly cleaned and they need to have mosquito nets conveniently in their pictures but not on person. Second, there was no breakfast even though it was listed in various places. Last is back to what I said before. The first night at 8:00 I was told the electricity would be turned off for TWO HOURS for the rain. They have a private generator which you can hear at the hotel. This said electricity was off ALL night from ten at night till eight in the morning. I was not happy but STILL gave the benefit of the doubt. The next day I asked three people and my wife who is Spanish speaking asked as well and it was a bright sunny day and still after telling us they would NOT turn off the electricity it was off yet again at 10 to 8 like clockwork. It was much warmer and I even woke up feeling sick in the middle of the night. We went to the front desk immediately in the morning and the person who was there informed us that it was actually the policy of the owners to do this. That they are told to lie to customers. AND they do not reply to phone calls, emails and any inquiries. This also proved true as I sent several and called over and over before this review. Last. The responses on this site by the owner are disgusting. Blaming customers, dismissing and saying it’s our problems. Oh yes and the threatening rude sign in their bathroom shows the fowl behavior. Unacceptable. Please do not stay here.
THIS IS A SCAM! Do not book!

Free Cancellation as posted all over their website is NOT TRUE and deceitful. Additionally, I made this reservation yesterday and when I received confirmation on email, they advised there is no AC and a number of basic amenities which they do not disclose in their website. Within 10 minutes of this conformation, I made every attempt by phone and by email to cancel as this is deceiving. The hotel just wrote me that they cannot cancel by email and that they cannot give me a number to talk to anyone. I believe this is fraud and extremely deceitful. Guendy, the "sales executive" basically told me she is in charge and no refund will be issued and that there is no escalation path for me to pursue a refund.
Breeze in the night

Lovely little secluded gem. Right on the water. Very clean. Perfect hideaway. Our room is spacious and the breeze never stops. The vibe is quiet, rustic, romantic. Perfect to reconnect with your person. ❤️

First I will start off by saying I stayed at calaluna 5 years ago and had a great experience... this time it was a nightmare. We only booked 1 night and we selected the queen room. It was the least expensive but i didn’t think that meant basically unrentable. It was located above the lobby on the street side (#30) First of all it was dirty. Not like mildly, like old squished bugs on the walls. Hair all over the bathroom. Like actually dirty. Also appeared to have blood stains on the build in shelf in front of the bed. That wasn’t even the worst of it... it gets no breeze and is incredibly hot. No ac and an “eco” hotel is just fine! But not when there was a huge gap in the only window screen that got any air. Bugs were crawling right in the window. The road is incredibly loud, but not as loud as the empty bar across the road blasting music. We didn’t want to go under the sheets we just layed on top of them trying to laugh about what a nightmare it was. We finally called it a night and left just before midnight. Had to drive into town and book at last minute room. Thankfully we could. That room is in NO condition for rental. I’m really sad this was the experience we had, the place was special to me. I emailed the hotel telling them my concerns and offered to keep my experience to myself. Sadly they never responded. Do yourself a favor, skip calaluna. This was our 3rd time in Tulum but if this was our first and we didn’t have a rental car it would have ruined our vacation.
