Phenomenal staff

The staff here were extremely helpful and spoke good English. They also allowed a late checkout at 2 pm with no charge. Showers were clean and had hot water. The actual hotel is quite run down. They had food like hot chips which is just what you feel like after ten days in the Gobi Desert.

Czar-era opulence, 21st century comfort

The staff are all amazing: So gung-ho to please, so hard-working!!! In the morning, the desk clerks, who have worked all night before, snap to attention to run into the kitchen and cook breakfast themselves, in their nice desk uniforms... The Omelettes are excellent, the coffee is fine....and the restaurant, while f dubbed an "Irish Pub", has outstanding traditional Mongol fare ( I recommend the Milk tea and Mutton). The decor is amazing: Kind of White-Russian-Czar-meets-Indiana Jones post-Victorian decadence....impeccably clean, with shining brass banisters, overstuffed parlor elegance and Colonial artwork abounding. The rooms are absolutely spectacular, a continuation of the overstuffed Czar-parlor decadence: Pay the little extra for the luxury suites: they're absolutely elegant. Housekeeping is among the best I've known anywhere: Fresh slippers, toothbrushes, combs and thick, plush towels every day.....I Can't say enough about The Royal House....and I have stayed at many of Ulaanbaatar's finest hotels. Every bellstaffer, every housekeeper, every assistant manager and every server are absolutely top-notch. It's like a step back in time to the days of colonial Grand Hotels of the far East. I am not sure that this fidelity to the experience can be found elsewhere, or at least without ironic manufacture: The Royal House means it. The property's immediate environs offer a real-time glimpse into UB's day-to-day life: You won't see many westerners down here in the Bayanzurkh district, where rank and file residents are hurrying to and from work, shopping ( The infamous and spectacular Narantuul aka "Black market" is only a few blocks down the street, a few blocks past it is the "national park, where you can rent a "Greenbike" for under $1 us and pedal around the paved sidewalks and stop for dart tosses, refreshments and sightseeing). The Bayanzurkh district is clean, safe, friendly and very very authentically "UB". The property's greatest feature is it's GM, "Oyuka", who understands hospitality Customer service intuitively: Her aptitude for hospitality trickle down through all employees, ensuring an exceptional experience for guests. You will not find a more comfortable, luxurious or satisfying guest experience in Ulaanbaatar, and, as mentioned, I have stayed in many of "UB" 's most renowned properties.

Spacious rooms, excellent restaurant.

The very large room, hot water jug, fridge and bottled water made it comfortable. Plush furniture and decorations made it rather special. We had comfortable, big beds, large and super-clean bathroom and a very fast and cheap laundry service was available. The hotel is on a street full of restaurants and shops and even supermarkets. Some buses and trolleybuses run along it and you can purchase a transport card at the first bus stop to the right of the hotel. It was nice to go for a stroll in a normal town street and observe the life. Once you see the traffic jam in the city centre you appreciate the value of public transport on your doorstep. No, the buses and trolleybuses were not crowded outside the peak hour. The downstairs restaurant was excellent and very popular with locals, who would stop there for a coffee and chat or for dinner. Very sophisticated, extensive menu made it easy for even the most demanding customer. The service was very good and pleasant. The front desk can organise a driver with a car for you, should you need one, and they charge normal city rates for it.

Central, clean, friendly

A good Ulaanbator hotel, situated about a twenty minute walk from the centre. The room was clean and serviceable with a good bathroom and a very cheap mini bar. Clean sheets and towels everyday. Friendly staff and a decent attached Irish bar (UB is full of them). I would stay here again.

Exactly what was needed

I stayed for two nights. The room was very large and had a very comfortable bed. Stocked with a mini-bar, sodas, beer, chips, etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting UB.
