Just what I was looking for

Desperately wanting to escape COVID in the UK, I planned some time in the relatively COVID free Antigua and booked to stay at Coco Rose. I loved staying here so much so that I extended my stay by a further 6 nights. I was looking for somewhere chilled, comfortable and not too expensive and it totally ticked all the boxes. If you want to save some money by cooking yourself it has good self catering facilities. If you are looking to eat out, the location whilst not near to any restaurants is just near the bus route to get to other places. I used the buses to get around a lot. Some of the nicest beaches on the island are less than 5 minutes by bus or if you fancy stretching your legs around half an hour walk. The closest postage stamp sized beach is just outside Coco Rose. Rose herself is fantastic, a really lovely and welcoming lady. I particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the sea. If you are also looking for a break during COVID times staying at Coco Rose felt very safe masks are worn all the time on the hotel grounds and Rose has set up sinks and hand sanitiser stations. Don't delay book today.

I had been to Antigua 4 times before over last 10 years so booked this to try self catering. It was great - Rose, her family and her staff were super. The room was large and had everything you would need - well equipped and clean. The beach although not easy to swim from due to coral reef was lovely. We jumped on a bus and within 10 mins were on Turners beach or Darkwood beach. We had enormous fun at both beaches - the people are great and 3 times the locals stopped to give us lifts - can't ask for better than that. We stayed the previous week at Jolly Beach resort - All Inculsive but had a better stay here as it was small, intimate and away from the noisy Canadians
Ideal for the independent traveller

Spacious room with kitchenette and balcony, a stone's throw from a little beach. Comfortable, clean and great value for money. Rose and her family are friendly, helpful hosts who make sure everything is ok for you. If you book an airport transfer you also get a stop-off at the supermarket which is great. There are some local shops for essentials but it's much better to do one large buy for heavy items on the way, especially if you don't intend to hire a car immediately. There are places to eat in the village within walking distance if you like to eat as the locals do - tasty and relatively cheap or by bus to beach restaurants. It's easy to get around by bus along the coast, it stops right at the end of the road, although hiring a car for a few days is well worth it to see all of the island. One tip is to bring small quantities of things like salt, pepper, sugar, oil, if you plan to self-cater as only washing up liquid is provided.
Highly recommend Coco Rose for the independent traveller who wants to see some of Antigua the way the locals live rather than be in a large resort. Thank you Rose and Sanchea for sharing your home with us - we had a lovely holiday on your beautiful island.
Friendly beach front hotel not ideal for swimming

Location - the hotel is located next to the sea in Cades bay. Disappointingly there is no beach. You need to walk over dead coral, sea grass and sea urchins to get to somewhere you can swim Bring reef shoes with you if you want to swim, as you may not be able to get your size on the island. The hotel is surrounded by pretty, well kept gardens.
The hotel is on the local bus route Number 22 from St John’s which passes Jolly Harbour, Darkwood beach and Turners beach. These beaches are about 10 minutes away on the bus, which is inexpensive.
We were put in a street view room overlooking houses even though the hotel was empty. There is a communal seating area facing the sea so we sat there rather than sitting facing the road.
The room was clean, spacious and had a ceiling fan (no air conditioning). The cooking facilities consisted of a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and a single electric ring. Unless you have a car the self catering is essential as there is only one restaurant in Urlings (Chappy’s) which is reasonably priced and a takeaway serving pizza and local food at around EC$15. There are 3 local shops within 15-20 minutes walk and a lady who sells fruit next to the school.
There was plenty of hot water, good wi fi, international TV channels, and some nice touches like fresh flowers on the table. The staff were friendly.
Tip :- bring soap as none was provided (washing up liquid was provided).
Note:- if you arrive by bus you will need to carry your case as the road down to the hotel is not paved
