GOOD ONE NIGHT PRE CRUISE
This is a renamed hotel located right on the harbor and a 5-10 minute taxi ride to the cruise terminal. Rooms are clean but very basic. Bathroom has twin sinks and good shower. Staff try hard although English is stll being improved. Breakfast was included and very good. Dinner was good and convenient, Harbor promenade is half a block away. Mall and casino are next to the hotel. One of two main elevators appears to be out of service for an extended period. Entrance to hotel or parking is somewhat of a puzzle. Recommend for a short stay or pre cruise night. Hope this helps.

Good hotel in this import Chilean port city!
I was in San Antonio on business and stayed at the Hotel Casino del Pacifico for three nights in December, 2017 right before Christmas. Let me just say that unless you have a car, this is basically the only hotel to chose from in town. Let me also say that the hotel staff tries really hard to please their guests. San Antonio is not yet a tourist city/destination, yet it is moving in that direction. There is a learning curve. It's pointless to compare the quality and service of this hotel to the likes of Santiago and Valparaiso. That said here are the good points and the points that need to be improved upon. Good: 1. The hotel is situated right in the heart of downtown and near the waterfront. You can walk from the hotel to shops, restaurants, etc. 2. Adjacent to and connected to the hotel is a casino, a large shopping mall (with department stores), and a grocery store. The mall has a food court, coffee shops, hair salon, etc. 3. The hotel has a good-quality restaurant on the 5th floor with good views. You can order room service too. 4. The hotel is within walking distance to the port, along a nice promenade with shops, cafes, stalls, etc. 5. If you go to the gym like I do, there's a Bootcamp-style gym (Minotaurus Box) within walking distance from the hotel. 6. The rooms are clean (though minimalistic), with good showers, and decent beds. 7. There are some large and good wineries very close to San Antonio (20 mins away). 8. All the rooms have excellent views of the waterfront, ocean, and port. The "Needs Improvement": 1. The hotel staff really want to do a good job and bend over backwards, but the hotel really needs to employ some English-speaking staff members if they want to cater effectively to tourists. Simple things like laundry, ordering room service, settling the bill, etc. become large chores with the language barrier. I would probably take it in stride if I was on vacation, but when you're there on business and on a time schedule, it's very challenging and frustrating. Google Translate helps. 2. In the same vein, most of the signage in the rooms are not geared towards English-speakers. Again, small things (like finding about tours, restaurants) become challenging. Overall, San Antonio is a charming working-class town that is also an important Chilean port city. The Casablanca Valley (wine country) is a short drive away. The hotel Casino del Pacifico is a very good option.
Very nice hotel for cruise passengers
I am puzzled by the negativity in so many of the other reviews. It's a nice casino hotel in a town that is a working port -- what would you expect?? We felt very fortunate to have this option! Since the hotel is pricey, it was our last splurge before embarking on a Holland America Antarctica cruise. The breakfast spread was impressive, and since we booked through Booking.com, we knew the exact rate and that it included breakfast. EVERY ROOM faces the ocean and the uppermost floors have a bird's-eye overlooking the port. We loved being able to watch the antics of the elephant seals down below us and to observe the activities on all the fishing and transport boats, and the loading and unloading of the cargo ships within sight. The bathroom was clean and very modern; the beds were very comfortable. The wi-fi and the TV worked fine. The hotel was booked solid with lots of fellow cruise passengers speaking every imaginable language so the front desk staff was a bit overloaded -- patience is a virtue, as is keeping in mind that it's not all about you!
Don’t waste your money
We were forced to stay here as our cruise departure was changed from Valparaíso to San Antonio. The town of San Antonio really doesn’t have much to offer which was disappointing considering Valparaíso was supposed to be amazing. This is the only hotel worth considering. The town it self is very dirty with garbage everywhere and not able to accommodate large amounts of people. The town wasn’t really our issue as much as the poor quality and service at the hotel. It looked as if it had been slapped together. The rooms were tidy but not great the towels were stained. The shower wouldn’t drain. And the language barrier created major issues getting food at one of the few restaurants that there are. For an international port town the level of disappointment is major. For anyone departing or disembarking travel to or from the day of as San Antonio is not far from both Santiago and Valparaíso. Save yourself some disappointment.
