A classic and historic hotel experience destroyed by modernization.

I primarily booked this hotel as I had stayed here many years ago and enjoyed stepping back into to a simpler time, the classic decor evoking memories of years past, reminiscent perhaps of Titanics ballroom. Alas, upon arrival, after first thinking I was in the wrong place, or perhaps going a bit dim in the brain, I discovered a renovation had taken place circa 2016. What were the owners thinking? In my opinion this historic building has been vandalized by insipid modernistic decor that can be found in any number of other hotels in the city of Vancouver, and the recklessness of the ownership should be put to public trial! What remains is a mishmash of circa 50's bronzed elevator doors, 'we were on a budget' hallways, and one poorly 'themed' modern restaurant and bar (sadly gone, the quaint classic bar, that used to occupy the rear corner off the lobby). Progress reared her ugly head to the Hotel that once hosted the King and Queen of England and I'm sure would have the original architects turning over subterranea. On top of that general disappointment, the food and booze were overpriced and fairly average, the aircooling in the room blew through the vent akin to a gnat sneezing on a forest fire, (which was warmer than the beaten sauna in the gym), the hot tubs in the pool area had been filled in underneath a rusting a decrepit pool cover. On the plus side, the booking agent on the phone was lovely, the hotel staff were amazing all round (many old timers sharing my general opinion of the ruination of the hotel in casual passing converse) and the room was promptly cleaned every day. Save your hard earned cash and book any other 4-star modern Vancouver Hotel for half the price and twice the experience. Property overlords Larco have ruined an institution, the saddest part is, they simply won't care...
Not up to the usual standard

The oldest Fairmont property in Vancouver and sadly not up to Fairmont’s usual standard. Stayed recently at the Fairmont Royal York and the Fairmont Empress, which like the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, are recently renovated “grande dames.” The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver falls far short of the renovation standard that the other two hotels have set. While the room is clean, the carpet was coming off in parts and the bathroom could’ve needed a refresh (no shower cubicle). Likewise, the interior of the room felt drab and tired, unlike the other rooms I’ve had at the York and the Empress. AC was rattling so loud throughout the night so that I turned it off. Service was friendly except for the Front Desk staff who appeared to be slightly overworked and were thus rather brusque. When I unexpectedly needed to prolong my stay in Vancouver, I decided not to add a night at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver but went to the Fairmont Pacific Rim instead – a much better, albeit also more expensive alternative.

Loved this hotel, especially the dogs on duty in the lobby…beautiful big room and my request for early checkin was no problem…room was ready at 1130 am when we arrived…central location and loved the history of the building
Excellent brief stay

I was on a 3 night business trip in Canada and was supposed to stay at the Fairmont Vancouver for 2 nights but because of Air Canada delays (will never take Air Canada again) I lost a connection so was only able to stay there in room 1026 for the night of 4 October 2021. The room was excellent, the view superb and the room service food was first class. I am 67 years old and a world traveler and this hotel reminded me of the good old days in which hotels treated guests with utmost courtesy and were also available to be of service. I special shout out to Ms. Mika, a concierge who upon knowing that a UPS package containing a medicine necessary for my daughter had not been delivered, ran out to the truck who was still there and got in the back with the driver until she found it and delivered it to me thus allowing me no to loose another flight.
Home away from home.

We stayed for 5 days at Hotel Vancouver in October 2021. We had the best visit and loved the hotel, felt safe and taken care of. The location is so central in downtown Vancouver that you can get anywhere you need very easily. Our room was comfortable and spacious and the restaurant and bar were open and delicious. Super comfortable beds. Super helpful concierge. Thank you.
