Charming hotel, friendly staff
It is a nice butique hotel in a quiet location, though within walking distance to the historic centre and to the zoo. We booked a superior room that has lovely views. The room is of good size, the bed comfy, the bathroom clean. There is tea/coffee tray in the room but we had no coffee and only decaf tea. Breakfast is served in a restaurant in the hotel building, while dinner in the restaurant adjacent to the hotel. The food is good in both restaurants, breakfast is buffet with hot items made to request. The hotel has a small and nice wellness centre. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This was the second time we've spent New Year's Eve here and it did not disappoint.
Beware of birds
The hotel is located in a quiet place of a quiet town. It feels like you are in middle of a park (warning: birds wake up at 3 am in case you like to sleep with the windows open). The room was small and dated. Rated 4 stars for welcoming staff only otherwise it worth only 3.
A Beautiful and Charming Hotel
This really is a beautiful and most charming hotel. It's set a little out of the twin centre, but surrounded by rocky bluffs that teem with birdlife. The front of the hotel does face the viaduct, but that gives quite a dramatic prospect and surprisingly there is minimal traffic noise. Indeed the reverberations from woodpeckers seemed to drown out traffic noise! My check in was super-efficient, with a ticket for a complimentary glass of sparking wine too. My second floor room was accessed by a lift (quite small, occupant for four), but thereafter I used the staircase. It soon became apparent that this is not a large hotel, but it does have many of the facilities of one. The staff are all super-friendly too. The room was excellent. Nice size, large storage space, very clean bathroom (shower only). It was amazingly light and airy, though on arrival quite warm. This was soon addressed by opening the french windows and the other door to the balcony, letting more light and birdsong flood in. The room was immaculate, bed comfortable, well decorated and traditionally styled; I loved it! Breakfast was a relative simple affair. Cereal was limited to cornflakes of a few options for a muesli type combination. Fruit was whole pieces, not chopped. Yoghurt was available, either natural of a fruit mix, and some delicious yoghurt / granola type pots were available. Eggs could be cooked to order, while there was a good selection of traditional meats, cucumber, tomato, etc, or cake and biscuits. The adjacent restaurant serves terrific meals, and is reviewed separately. Alternatively, it's not a long walk into the town. The hotel does have a wellness centre, though I didn't use it (I'm a runner) and a small but nice bar. There is more than sufficient car parking. I loved this hotel, hopefully I will have an opportunity to stay here again.
We Really Liked This Place
We arrived at the hotel on a bicycle trip. It was charming and the staff was friendly and helpful. They had a place for us a lock our bike indoors. The food was good in the restaurant. The rooms were nice. It was easy walking distance to both the castle area and to a shopping area in town.
Excellent service
Staff were wonderful and very helpful during my stay. Room could be updated. Restaurants and food were superb. Sauna spa area very well presented and clean. I used the massage services which were very good.
