Average
The best thing about the hotel is the friendly staff and the amazing lake view. And if you have a 10 min walk from the hotel towards the lake, you will reach a very serene spot at the lake which is totally worth it. Other than that, it's not the best find. It's far from the city center and bus timings aren't flexible and not frequent. So our transportation depended on taxis which was expensive. But that will definitely not be a problem if you rent a car. The rooms aren't the best as well, dimly lit, and the hotel corridors are a bit smelly. The rooms in their pictures are definitely not the realistic ones. But overall, we didn't stay much in the room, so if your aim is to explore and enjoy some serenity and a view then this hotel might be satisfying to you.
Noisy rooms right on main road
This hotel situated about 15 minutes round the lake from Annecy in Veyrier du Lac was twice as expensive as anywhere we had stayed and half as good. The website cleverly shows a photograph of the hotel which looks as though it is set back from the road but it is not. It is right on the main road which is busy until late at night and from early in the morning. As the rooms are not air-conditioned you absolutely need the window open in July to have any chance of sleep and then the noise from the road is frankly unbearable, all night long and you feel like you haven’t slept a wink. In addition the breakfast is very expensive for what you get - easily the worst breakfast buffet we had on our holidays so my advice is go out for breakfast! The night we arrived we ate in the hotel restaurant. My children had a main course from the menu (pasta around EUR14) and a dessert (ice cream I think) and I later noticed on the bill this had been counted as two seasonal menus at EUR 28 each which roughly works out at EUR 14 for an ice cream! I thought it was a bit fly and complained to the reception at check out and give them their due they did refund me a decent sum. Lac d’Annecy is wonderful just don’t stay here!
An interesting find
We are visiting Veyrier on a nostagia trip because my wife did a school exchange in Annecy near here 60 years ago. The hotel is in the process of some overdue refurbishment and is located adjacent to the main road and although we have a room at the front overlooking the lake and the road it is not particularly noisy because of the double glazing. The room is pleasant with a balcony and a small bathroom and shower. It is an old building which doesn't have a lift but the walk up the stairs is easy. The restaurant is the Star Attraction. The food is superb and the chef is a real artist. If I lived 50 Kms from here, a visit for dinner would really brighten my week. The Receptionist regrettably does not speak English, but my answer to that is "If you come on holiday to a foreign country, learn a few words of their language, or at least bring a book with a few useful phrases"
Substandard hotel with excellent PR
The best thing about the hotel was the friendly staff. The website shows a refurbished, bright modern hotel with clean fresh rooms and balconies. Not the case. It maybe in a state of remodel but the work is poor. The carpet is st least 30 years old and warn. The place is dark and just plain drab. The flat paint covering years of misuse leave it looking sad and neglected. The floors are laminate flooring that looks like wood but doesn’t deliver the beds creak and the pillows and bed linens are worn out and rough. The tub was so small only a toddler could sit in it. The planters had dead plants and I wasn’t sure about my safety on the porch. The noise from the road was overwhelming. It does have a lake view if you look real hard to the right.
Still waiting for a refund
Booked this through booking.com with free cancellation. We cancelled in plenty of time but they had charged for the first night - 260 euros. This was 18 months ago and I've been chasing them and booking.com and neither can give me an answer - each blames the other. Be warned!
