NOT the place to go...
The only positive thing that can be said about this hotel is, that it is a nice old house, kind of chateau from the outside. That´s about it. When you enter the hall/ reception it smells instantly and stuff/ garbage is standing around everywhere (like baby cots, sheets and blankets, chairs etc. - at 5.30 pm, so even if this is housekeeping, should be able to do it less messy...) The woman at the reception was also untidy and - sorry to say so - smelly either. We went straight away to the toilet near the reception with our children and those were 1. falling apart and 2. super dirty, like dirt that haven´t been cleaned away for decades...Not nice smell coming out from the kitchen either...We didn´t get to see the rooms because we were part of a marriage that had also booked guests in the hotel next door - that is apparently working together with Domaine des Cedres. This place called "Hotel du Monolithe" should not be called a Hotel but this is a different review. From what I have seen from Domaines des Cedres I would absolutely not recommend it. Drive thought Villebois and find another pretty place, that is my recommendation.
Peacefulness and french art de vivre
This hotel looks more like a chambre d'hôtes. Still, services are full and exactly what you can expect in this region. You are near Lyon and many opportunities are offered around to experience France and its culture.
Nice little hotel on the way
We needed an overnight option and found this hotel by mere chance. It is a 19th century castle situated within spacious and well-kept grounds. The rooms are cosy and well furnished if a little old fashioned and slightly worn. The owner was very friendly and helped us in location a restaurant for our dinner. Breakfast was great with lots of French breakfast goodies such as baguette, croissants, rolls or fresh pancakes! The hotel is very quiet and you can have breakfast in the garden outside or inside in the restaurant featuring a huge fireplace. A charming place for staying overnight directly at the river Rhone!
Ok accommodation for playboating on Sault-Brenaz whitewater park
The hotel has rather friendly staff (which does not speak English though) and it was a rather good accommodation for our purposes (we did not want to stay on the campground due to the weather conditions). It is located in a nice old house on the river Rhone. However, the house is unfortunately not very well renovated. The rooms are a bit small and rather uncomfy. A bit overpriced given the value. Would not book it for normal holidays...
