More about the hotel
Surprisingly great!
My husband and I had a function to attend in Waikerie and booked a room at the Waikerie hotel. We booked a delux room for $130 on a Saturday. We were very pleasantly surprised at what we got! Check in was easy and quick, lovely lady checked us in. Our room was in the hotel upstairs. The room was spacious, very clean, very comfortable with a huge king sized bed, big TV, aircon and nice decor. The bathroom was great, large, very clean, huge shower head! Our room was quiet and we didn’t hear any noise from the hotel even on a Saturday night. On Sunday morning we went down for breakfast. Breakfast was really good too. My husband had a Waikerie breakfast and I had eggs Benedict, both very nice. There is coffee and tea complimentary and they also have a selection of cereals and juices, was all very nice. Checkout was easy. Parking convenient and easy walking distance to all things in the Main Street and too the river. Great stay and would return. Good value for money.
Great hearty meals
In July this year I was in Waikerie visiting a terminally ill uncle and I dined at the Waikerie hotel and motel 3 times for dinner over 7 days. Each time the staff were warm and welcoming and getting a table was seamless. The first dinner was lamb shank and was a very generous serve, they must have huge lambs in the Riverland! They have a great wine list which includes my favourite winery, Rockfords, I left the venue a very happy man. I’ll definitely go back when I stay in Waikerie next time.
Dining disaster
Accommodation in the hotel (as distinct from the motel section) was excellent, however dining was terrible. I chose grilled barramundi main which came out lathered in black pepper - I could not taste anything on the plate for the pepper - who does this to one of the best tasting fish around? My wife chose roast of the day - lamb; she rarely fails to finish a main dish, however she gave up as the meat was so tough to chew. Both mains were clearly below standard. Also curious was an appetiser in garlic bread which came out covered in melted Parmesan cheese - who does this? We left unfinished plates on our table. We chose not to have breakfast as this dining room was not a pleasant experience. Dining not recommended.
Food was great but lacking in good old fashioned service.
We chose this hotel for a family catch up in the middle of the year. Lovely facilities and very good food, but sadly they were unable to meet the above with coordinated service. We ordered together (approximately 20 of us), but the meals were served with at least a 20 minute gap between when the first person was served to the last. Having to go and inquire about your meal is not a good look.
