Staff make this hotel. Nice place and have good covid procedures
Stayed here due to work a couple times going back and forth, its a nice little hotel although it could do with some work as it's looking a rather rundown. The room service in evening is always good as I always seem to see the young lad Ben with the tattoos he's a always very helpful and professional and a good lad. However it does seem that he's the only one that puts in work in evenings as every time I go down he's always in and out with room service never see him stop, it's very understandable why it can take a while for food especially if there's a lot staying in house and one person dealing with them so respect to him. Certain morning staff are great, Elsa and Kimberly are very friendly and attentive, they always enforce and respect covid safety for each guest. I wish other guests would be respectful however as I've seen other guests not follow rules and when asked by staff they still don't do anything. Managers need to step up on this and stop letting them off the hook. The food is nicely warmed up and you get the option to fill out a form to have breakfast delivered to you or yo come down and collect which is pretty reasonable. However there is one rather large lady there called Maz? Who can be pretty rude and from what I've seen doesn't do anything but stare at her phone at like 6 in morning?? And when you hear a member of staff asking for help she still doesn't do anything. Even though everyone is struggling during these covid times I think staff need to be given more support because there are a few here that make staying at this hotel worth while! Overall, this hotel is a good place to stay, close to shops, good food, some good staff, nice location and accommodate to your needs, I will definitely stay here more often whether it be for business or leisure! Thank you holiday inn. Toni
Restored my faith in the IHG group
When I found out my employer had booked a holiday inn I was unhappy due to the horrendous experience that I had staying at hotel INDIGO in YORK (part of the same group). This was the complete opposite experience. The staff were friendly, professional and nothing was to much trouble for them. The Scottish lady at breakfast showed exceptional customer service and should be sent to other locations to teach staff best practice of working in the hospitality industry. COVID-19 measures were in place, however this did not result in a lack of services or corners being cut. The evening meal was pre-ordered, due to the current COVID-19 guilds lines being that you have to eat in your room. My meal arrived just before 21:00 hours, but there where close to 56 orders in the party that I was in, so this would be something to keep in mind when staying. I would one hundred percent return to the location if I needed a hotel room in this part of Yorkshire again.
Best covid breakfast yet
Visited this hotel whilst on business. Been to a few hotels during lockdowns and the food had been poor, but this one it was of a high standard and there was no compromising like elsewhere. A FULL English breakfast served and proper food for dinner. Friendly staff, really quick check in and rooms to a decent standard
Clean, Simple, Polite Staff
Stayed at Holiday Inn Wakefield on business. The hotel itself was clean and well presented, the staff were attentive, polite, and friendly, the rooms basic but comfortable. Food was reasonable quality and served in a way compliant with enhanced COVID measures. No issues. A perfectly reasonable stay.
Very nice hotel but shame about bar prices
Spent one night here recently while attending a funeral locally. Hotel reception was very welcoming and friendly and clean and the whole place felt very COVID secure . Room was very comfortable and the quality you would expect from a Holiday Inn. We had a couple of drinks in the bar in the evening and charged them to our room . We weren't shown the prices as we didn't have the smart phone app that could read the bar menu. I was shocked therefore the next day that 2 glasses of wine and a pint and a half of beer came to £28.10 . Had to pay it as in a rush for the funeral the next morning but on querying the hotel by phone later it turned out I had been given 2 glasses of sauvignon blanc at £10.95 each despite ordering the cheaper Pinot Grigio which I later found on an online bar menu would have been a (still staggering) £8.10 each. These are rip off prices . I had a very friendly reception person on the phone when I queried it the next day, but wasn't offered any apology or refund for the difference , and as I couldn't prove I hadn't ordered the more expensive wine , I didn't pursue it myself. Anyway breakfast next morning was very nice with a hot meal served unlike other holiday inns which are just doing a bacon bap and again the COVID hygiene was at the forefront. I liked the hotel and I would stay there again, but won't be drinking at the bar I am afraid.
