More about the hotel
Using “COVID” to take advantage of hotel guests
During COVID I have spent 14 nights in hotels. I understand the changes that need to happen to keep us safe. This hotel seemed to go overboard with cost saving measures that no other hotel has done. Several items were not provided in the room: no plastic drinking cups; no do not disturb sign; not even 2 full sets of towels; one coffee pod; no laundry bag; light not working. We were greeted with the outside trash can overflowing and wild cats eating out of the trash can. It stayed that way all night. The hotel was sold out that night, which to me indicates that there is revenue to provide the missing items in the room. It seems this hotel just gave up on customer service. I am guessing the next time I pass through Wallace, this hotel will no longer be a IHG brand and will be downgraded to a lesser quality brand.
Very Clean Hotel
I don't understand some of the below average ratings. This hotel is clean and very nice. Staff is helpful and coffee and breakfast is fine. The only small complaint is the internet seems to go in and out. But that has been happening as we drove thru Wallace anyway.
Poor experience yet no follow-up from management
We rented a suite for two nights. I was actually told we were in the nicest, most expensive room they offered. The shower head was broken and there was electrical tape that was loosely wrapped around the pole where it slides up and down, evidence that they were completely aware of the issue in the past and made a poor attempt to "fix" the broken lever. I notified the desk at 6:45am that the shower head was broken and that we needed it fixed by 1pm, due to being a part of the wedding taking place that day. I was promised by the lady at the front desk that morning that I would either have it fixed or be moved by 1pm; that did not happen. Maintenance did not show up until 1pm, which is when my husband vacated the room and took the privacy sign off the door. The housekeeper saw him leave as she worked on the room directly across the hall from us. Upon returning to the room, after the wedding since they did not fix the shower prior to the time we had to get ready, the shower head was "fixed" with another piece of electrical tape. However, the room was not serviced, including trash left in the room, unmade bed, and no clean towels. I called down to the desk and another lady was very apologetic and said management would be in contact with me. We checked out the following day and was again promised a call from management. I'm not sure why I am surprised that I still have yet to get a call, but I really think this was managed very poorly. However, management couldn't care any less. Furthermore, at 10am on our check-out day, both of our cards were deactivated, although check out was 11am. Another lady (a third employee) said it could have been deactivated due to being by a credit card; however, neither of the keys were anywhere near anything magnetized. A very frustrating experience. Mind you, the hotel, Mad Boar, and River Landing Clubhouse are managed by the same people, so they have a complete monopoly on any other options in Wallace. Very disappointed. If there was a next time, I'd gladly make the drive to Wilmington for hotel accommodations. No compensation or any efforts to make this right were offered.
Holiday Inn, Wallace
Best location for my work East of Raleigh. Place is clean and the property is kept nice with everything in order. The have a restaurant that is so close they may be sharing a wall. Swimming pool and the fitness center were well outfitted. Breakfast was typical Holiday Inn but will appointed.
Working Out of Town
Staff I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. This seems like an older hotel. There was visible wear and tear In the bathroom. The carpets needed some TLC or at least a good cleaning. The carpets in the stairwell were badly stained. Stairs are narrow, short. . . not wide enough for me. . . i could not get a comfortable temperature in the room not sure if it was because of the humidity. It got really cold with the air on and too stuff with the heater on. I finally decided to leave the air on and bundle up. There was a slightly musty smell if the air wasn’t on. There is a Keurig in the room. I did appreciate the larger frig and microwave. I did have a problem with the frig. The temperature non was broken and I couldn’t lower the temp. All my food froze.
