Fantastic!!
Everything in their control is a 5. The service, hygiene, bicycle garage and attention to our vegan breakfast request was perfect. Thanks for the attention to make our stay comfortable! We wavered between a 4 and 5 rating, but the location on the edge of Wallgau on a very busy road = a 4. Request a side or back facing room for less road noise.
Hospitality superb
Very friendly and caring staff. Good food and nice and clean rooms. We have been here before, during the winter break with the entire family and then the service was perfect. A caring hostess and friendly staff.
Convenient stop, beautiful views,
We were on a motorcycle trip and wanted to avoid Garmisch, which we had visited numerous times. Instead, we picked this hotel that was on our route (Deutsche Alpenstrasse) headed towards Berchtesgaten. It was convenient, easy to find, and a neat traditional style Bavarian guesthouse with neat wood decor. There is free off street parking (shared with the in house restaurant) and covered parking for the motorcycles was offered at the rear of the property (tho we chose not to use it since the weather was nice enough). The restaurant is on the first floor, and if no one is at the reception, check the restaurant as they are usually working that side as well. The reception was warm, our room ready. There is no lift, so all rooms require some stair climbing. We had a small room facing a glorious view of the Alps. It was the cooler side of the hotel, which was nice since there is no air conditioning and temperatures were unseasonably warm. The room was small, but had a balcony, a neat built in seating area and enough closet space, perfect for two persons. The bed was European firm, pillows European limp. The bathroom was also small but efficient and very clean with good water pressure (we were on the 2nd floor up). Wifi was included in the room, and worked well the entire time. Dinner was good, menu included an interesting selection (it included a Thai curry flavored dish with rice, very non-German, which was a nice change of pace from traditional pork and potatoes). Breakfast was also included in the price and served buffet style in the restaurant. Typically European with cold sliced meats, cheeses, juices, whole fruit, cereals and breads. Eggs offered with a place to boil them to your liking. There were other guests in the hotel, but we didn't hear them. The noise mostly came from the street since we had to have the windows open, but once it got dark, it got quiet and it was a restful sleep. Overall, a great little hotel.
A warm welcome to a traditional Bavarian guesthouse
We stayed for 1 night at Hotel Alpenhof. We arrived by bike, and the very friendly and helpful owner kindly offered us the use of tools to fix a puncture and a secure place to store our bikes. The room was small, but perfectly adequate for a short stay, and was impeccably clean throughout. We had stunning views out across to the Karwendel Alps where we had cycled from earlier in the day. There were a couple of quirky features in the room, including a car radio with cassette tape player built into the cabinet under the TV, and a small table with benches to sit at. There was free wifi available in the room; not the fastest or most reliable, but perfectly acceptable for checking emails and some light web browsing. Wallgau is a small place, and eateries are limited, so we chose to eat in the hotel. The restaurant was full to capacity, and we shared our table with other hotel guests. We both had a traditional Bavarian veal goulash with bread dumplings. The food was excellent, and well worth the wait in the busy restaurant. The hotel is situated beside the busy main road, but at night, the traffic died away and we had an undisturbed good night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was plentiful and of high quality, with cereals, breads, cheeses, meats, yoghurts and fruits all on offer. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody wishing to stay in Wallgau.
Very friendly place
We stayed at the hotel with two kids for 4 nights. The owner is very friendly, food in the restaurant was good, kids were also well looked after. The guesthouse is situated very close to the REWE supermarket and town centre.
