For Meetings, Be Careful of Lousy AV

Reviewed 17 november, 2021

Our semi-annual Board meeting was held at Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, and the audio-video was beyond disappointing, with malfunctioning video in the midst of the meeting despite prior assurances that all was set. When booking the Ritz for meetings, do not assume that Ritz Georgetown has skilled AV staff.

Fell flat of expectations

My husband and I stayed at this property for 3 nights in Sept 2021, using 330000 points for a studio suite (Room W112- a $900/night room). I am a Platinum level member with Bonvoy. Overall, we were underwhelmed and unlikely to return. Prior to Covid, my husband traveled over 100 nights a year as a consultant. That, coupled with my former life in event management, make us familiar with what one should be able to expect from a hotel of this caliber. A Langham or Four Seasons it is not. Hotel Pros: Excellent location - a block from the bustle of Georgetown’s main intersection, yet an important block that keeps the rooms peaceful and quiet. Also, the studio suite (their smallest suite), is an excellent size. We had space for my husband to work from the room without either of us getting in each other’s way. I imagine it would still feel like enough room for a family of four, with the extra half bath. Excellent valet service - always had our car ready at door within 5 minutes of calling down. Hotel Cons: Our room was not cleaned at all during our stay, despite directly communicating with housekeeping when we would be out of the room (including a 7-hour window on our second day). We were repeatedly visited by centipedes (see photo), which we determined were making their entry from two broken floor tiles in the small bath. Room service delivered food promptly, but the quality was average at best. The steak my husband ordered on our first night was embarrassingly over cooked. Although I looked forward to the promised soaking tub, it looked in need of a thorough scrub (pictured). Bonvoy Cons: Our first night, we asked to change rooms after encountering our first crawling ‘visitor’. We were told the hotel was overbooked for the weekend and ‘this room is the best they could do’. I have no idea if this was true, but it is the 3rd time now as a Platinum member where my membership level was not acknowledged nor provided any promised amenities (a free room upgrade, club lounge access, if available). It has become a loyalty program of unrequited love back to the customer. I was not going to leave such a negative review without giving the hotel ample opportunity to respond to our disappointment. Upon checkout, Jan at the front desk seemed genuinely apologetic for the unfortunate events of our stay and refunded several of the charges. She said she’d relay our concerns to her manager, Brett, who sent us an email that could be easily summed up as ‘sorry, not sorry’. We did, however, fall in love with the Georgetown neighborhood and will look forward to our stay at the Rosewood or Four Seasons upon our return, which are in the same neighborhood. We also really enjoyed our dinner at Blueduck Tavern at the Park Hyatt and Saturday afternoon tea at Seasons.

Fantastic hotel, great staff

Having just stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Philadelphia, which is understaffed and needs some help in general, arriving at the Georgetown Ritz Carlton was an eye opener. The property is fresh and new and well tended. The staff were crack. Particularly a front desk concierge named "Lan" - Full name Quynh-Lan Huynh, who was kind and knowledgeable and went out of her way to make sure we got an important documents scanned and faxed and confirmed. Really nice place, really nice people including valet staff, great rooms -- highly recommended, and looking forward to another stay.

Wonderful visit

We had a wonderful visit to the Ritz in Georgetown. We found the staff to be incredibly accommodating, kind, professional and thoughtful. We had a few special requests as we were celebrating a milestone birthday for a family member and they were all handled perfectly. The hotel itself is in a wonderful location and it is incredibly clean and their safety standards are impeccable. We hope to visit again in the near future as it was very relaxing and pleasant.

Best hotel in town

Pamper yourself and stay at the Ritz Carlton Georgetown. From the minute you enter the hotel every staff member wants to help you. The smell of the lobby area, the design of it and seating area is well thought of. Very cause and friendly atmosphere. Rooms are well set up. The gym is small and has the basic machines to stay fit and keep your energy. The location is perfect, you have everything around you. It’s near the canal, near the shopping area, near the restaurants, the bars and cafes and Shisha (hooka) places. All within the reach of an arm. Highly recommended for couples, families, friends and even if you’re alone. Thanks to the management and all staff for making our short stay an unforgettable one.
