A Bed yes place to stay not so much

Reviewed 31 october, 2021

The staff are friendly and the views are good if you get the south or east facing room. However, this is a old hotel. It is dated and past its use by date. We stayed here some 16 years ago and are now back for required 14 day MIQ internment. And hopefully the experience will improve. There has been some updating, the beds are comfortable. The old single pane windows whistle and rattle with the wind, the air and noise flows freely from the hallway door and window that doesn't not seal. Do not eat here. The food quality is poor. No consideration is given to balanced nutrition, flavors are dull. Really, its just the most basic of slop. Room meals are served cold and there is no way to reheat. A bed yes...a place to stay not so much

Great MIQ

Reviewed 20 october, 2021

A perfect place to spend MIQ. The staff were excellent and friendly. The food was plentiful and good. The shower was luxurious and the view was splendid. They made a difficult time much easier. Thanks!

You are awesome Grand Mercure.

I was unaware we would have to wait 4 hours for our flight to Wellington. We were not prepared for that and were not  advised about this process at any stage. We had people who had 2 days flying from Ireland, Scotland and England who were extremely tired and hungry. There was a small bag of snacks given and no opportunity to purchase any food. Maybe if we were advised of this previously we could have been prepared physically and mentally. I say all this to let you know how grateful we were to come to this hotel. They checked us in quickly and had a lovely meal with  basil pesto pasta with sundried tomatoes as well as fruit and a biscuit waiting for us upon arrival. The staff is amazing and cannot do enough for you. The meals are so fabulous I posted them the Miq Facebook page, and hired an exercise bike. My room is immaculately clean and a great size, the bed is better than my bed at home. The shampoo and conditioner etc is great quality and smells really nice. If I have to be in isolation I feel truly blessed to be here. Just got a call from the F & B Manager making sure everything was alright. Wow the details of the staff is fantastic. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world and this hotel has me impressed. I will definitely come back here anytime I need a place to stay in Wellington. If you are looking for lovely hotel in Wellington look no further then The Grand Mercure you won't be disappointed. Thanks Grand Mercure you guys totally rock.

Had our private elevator

Reviewed 21 september, 2020

We stayed here for Valentine's flying from Auckland. It was wonderful to find out on check-in that we were upgraded to a Suite with its own private elevator. Although a bit farther to the CBD, we love our uphill walk :) It was quiet at night (important for husband who is a light sleeper), and just near Cuba street where you can find several lovely restaurants. We had our daily breakfast in the hotel. There is a self operating coffee machine, but we opted to ask for barista made coffee, which the staff gladly prepared for us. We enjoyed our time, thank you!

Another great stay, thanks.

Had a lovely stay for 5 nights. Staff were very welcoming and especially appreciated the effort they went to to organise a newspaper each morning, so we could do the crossword. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to coming back in October. 😁
