Great Location, BUT a Nightmare!!

We chose this hotel for its fantastic central city location, but also because it was pitched as a 'premium' hotel. And we paid a bit more for the privilege. But what a massive disappointment!! This would certainly be no more than 4 stars on a good day and is probably closer to 3 1/2 stars. The facility seems tired, slightly unkempt - its a bit like stepping back 15 years. The staff were great - friendly and responsive. Here are just a few observations and experiences from our two-night stay: Poor cellphone signal/reception - on different phones. I had planned to spend some time calling clients but the signal was so unreliable that I had to give up. Not great if you're a business traveler! Shower curtain - really! In a premium hotel and they have an over-bath shower with a curtain... reminded me of a student flat... No venting in the bathroom resulted in the mirror steaming up whenever anyone had a shower No 'Netflix' etc option - they just had the standard free to air channels plus the good old traditional SKY. Most premium properties that are responsive to their clients changing habits now offer some way to connect to Netflix etc Tiny cups - very difficult to make a hot drink when the cups provided were little more than large egg-cups! Again, most decent facilities these days provide mugs as an option for those of us who want to have a real drink A person entered our locked room at around 10 pm when we were asleep, turned on the light, quickly said "sorry" and then left without even turning off the light. Maybe expect that in a hostel but not in a so-called premium hotel. We did tell the reception the next day and they gave us 2 free drink vouchers...really... On Saturday night there was continuous, loud banging and yelling in the hallway - seemed to go on for 30-45 minutes. We contacted reception as it sounded like someone was drunk and trying to break into a room. Turned out that it was the duty manager trying to access a room where the lock had broken. I'm sure they could have done it more subtly!... Stained wood paneling, really outdated decor and a general 'grubby' feeling On the positive side, the staff were great, the bed was super comfortable and the location was fantastic. But we were really disappointed with our stay - the experience was well short of the expectations and we'll be looking for somewhere else next time we visit Wellington!
Tired Hotel that’s ready for a complete refit.

My two girls and I were looking forward to a night in the International after wonderful stays at QT Museum hotel and Rydges but this large hotel definitely didn’t live up to its reputation. It is extremely tired and outdated. The carpet in the bar is dirty and has huge stains, our room was extremely tired. The enamel coating on the bath was peeling off everywhere and the shower head was hanging off. The, once luxurious pool as advertised was filthy on the bottom and not inviting. Spa closed due to Covid, which was to be expected but the hotel had left all of the dirty spa water in the spa and it had turned green and slimy (not a good look!) the sparse chairs around the pool were in a bad state, with all of the powder coating coming off! This hotel needs a huge overhaul! I’ll book the QT museum hotel or Rydges in future as their standard is way above that of the Intercontinental

Very impressed with staff friendly, helpful. Superior King room spacious, with huge bed which was very comfortable with down topper pad. Handy spot walk to most city places. Celebrating anniversary there was a platter of sweet stuff and bottle of bubbly in room when we arrived.
High Tea Triumph!

Booking No: #5499 A memorable High-tea experience. Beautiful table settings, scrumptious food with a good balance of savoury and sweet and an excellent tea selection. The attention to detail is something to write about. They had “good luck” written on the plates as a request, after contacting me via phone to explain what they could offer. The waitresses were attentive, discreet yet available. I am again highly impressed with the service and food selection. Highly recommendable.
Top all rounder.

Top service all round. Beautiful hotel. Good location. Friendly and Helpful staff. Rooms are really nice and very clean which is a bugbear of mine when they aren’t. Can not fault anything at the Intercontinental. Highly recommended and prices are becoming more accessible in relation to other hotels.
