Wanted to cook dinner!
We were getting tired of fast food so we chose Candlewood Suites so I could cook dinner. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook a steak dinner. After a quick trip to the excellent Hy-Vee Grocery store nearby we were all set. The room was clean, the bedding clean and comfortable. There is no breakfast served, but none was advertised. There was a large gym which I'll admit I didn't use. The location was excellent for us as we traverse I-80 heading west.
Road Trip on the Fly with a dog
Decided to take our dog on a road trip and book hotels as we went, totally foreign to us organized people. Candlewood Suites works for us as the rooms are bigger including a kitchen area. Traveling with a dog really limits you and combine that with the pandemic. I like to find places more out of the city limits so we can walk our dog and have some space for her. This hotel is in an office plaza but if you walk a ways there is grassy areas by the freeway and by some office buildings. Overall we were pleased with this place, it could use some TLC but we were only there one night.
Bad quality/Nice staff
Elevators were broken! Upon arrival in our queen suite we notice the fire alarm dangling from the ceiling, we tried calling down to the front desk to tell them but the phone wouldn’t work. So my husband had to walk down there, they apologized and moved us to a new queen suite. The 2nd room, little dirty in areas, tv remote didn’t work right and it was sticky and covered in dog hair. We noticed over night it was little chilly, thermostat set at 66 and we couldn’t move it, so the following day we tried again but it wouldn’t move so we called down and desk person came up, he tried a few things but couldn’t get it to work, so he asked us if we wanted to move again and to a bigger suite and apologized to us. So we moved again! 3rd suite, I found blood stains on the sheets, but we decided we had enough and just took a picture and removed the sheet and would tell staff about it at check out the following day. At checkout the lady saw the photo and didn’t seem to care!
Not representative of the brand
We usually stay at Candlewood Suites when traveling with our pets because the rooms are large and the hotel is so pet friendly. I phoned the hotel and asked for a king suite and was assured I would have one. Upon arrival I was told they only had queen suites. It was a little small for three dogs & two humans, but we made due. The wall thermostat didn't work, and trying to control the heat via the wall unit was extremely difficult due to placement. Also, the unit is only in the living area, none in the bedroom, so the temperature was way off. The curtain rod in the bathroom was peeling chrome the entire way. The trash cans outside of the side doors were filled with trash and cigarette butts - they clearly had not been emptied in awhile. Inside of the side door there was trash and a lot of dirt. I don't feel like this particular hotel is representative of the brand and not up to the standards that we usually find in Candlewood Suites. It was super convenient to the highway, and there are sidewalks to take your pets on a nice walk, so that was nice. The check-in attendant was fabulous; she could not have been nicer or more engaging. She was the best part of the whole experience. We wouldn't stay here again, though. I'm just not comfortable with the cleanliness.
Good location could do some remodeling.
Close to I-80 and Jordan Creek with large living area. Lobby areas is very small and could use some updates but was very convenient to shopping and travel. Very clean and close to restaurants and Hy-Vee just north of I-80.
