A visit to Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia
Reviewed 20 September, 2021
We recently spent three days at the Stonewall resort in West Virginia. We were eager to use our brand new fishing boat. The lake is one of the most beautiful that we’ve ever seen, the fishing is fabulous, and the peace and serenity on the lake is just what we needed. Our accommodations at the lodge were outstanding, and the food was also very good in the restaurant and in the tavern. We are planning to have the whole family come next year for a reunion. There are plenty of activities that will meet the needs of everyone.
Very Nice Resort

I was on a road trip and only booked one night. Planned on stopping for a little relaxation and a few rounds of golf. From the moment I arrived and was met by the valet, it was everything I hoped it would be. Every single employee I ran into was extremely helpful and pleasant. My room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The grounds were very well taken care of and sitting by the fire pit one evening conversation was easy between a few couples and myself. The golf course, and every employee up there as well, was in great shape and was a great layout. I will be booking again and will bring the wife next time. Walking around part of the lake and seeing all the deer to the overall great peaceful location, if you're in the area, you must visit here.

This was a girls getaway for six of us. It is a wonderful place to stay. We walked around the property some, were given a golf cart tour of the property by Phil, sat around the firepit, enjoyed dinner and breakfast at Stillwaters. All of the staff is very friendly. We spent most of one day in Weston -- Glass museum, boutique, and Appalachian Glass (our favorite), and returned that evening for dinner at Thyme Bistro.. Wished we could have had one more day to enjoy the pool.
Great Resort But Not Great Room

Overall the resort was beautiful with wonderful amenities. We loved the gorgeous pool and patio areas, hiking trails, Palmer golf course, canoes & kayaks, and restaurants. Several things were greatly lacking however. We arrived at 4pm for check-in but had to wait an additional 2 hours. We arrived to a room with a lumpy, poor condition bed cover and black scum on the tile in the bathroom. Decor int he rooms needs updating. Spa and cruises were booked before we arrived so we were not able to use them at all for the week we stayed. Beautiful resort but the rooms need attention before I will come back.
Eclectic Experience at a First Class Resort

Country roads took me home to Stonewall Resort, and I absolutely loved every moment of my stay there. My friends are blue blood/upper crust types, so we stayed in the Presidential Suite, which has been described as 2,000 square feet of pure luxury. It was truly an elite experience, and other guests squealed in delight upon hearing of the greatness of our suite.
Overall, the long weekend was an incredibly eclectic mix of experiences, all of which were a blast. I went kayaking, enjoyed the raucous foam pool party, purchased a hobo pack of marshmallows and burned them to a crisp while being mistaken for a mentally disabled person, and at one point I was rescued from a cliff on the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course by a man smoking a cigar. I also consumed an inordinate amount of activated charcoal, and feel like my entire body has been cleansed.
The clientele was similarly eclectic, from a gregarious millionaire lawyer visiting for the day from Cleveland, to a sharp-tongued educator from a wealthy Virginia suburb. We also encountered a group of women on a "momcation"; several bachelorette parties; a gaggle of pot-smoking sassy grandmas; a Trump-loving CraigCat aficionado, and more exterminators than I care to recall.
Dining was excellent, and elite, with Stillwaters and Lightburns being a lefty-righty combination on par with Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. And TJ Muskies can't be beat for a late night coffee.
My only complaint is that the resort is terribly understaffed, and they need to hire more help. The concierge and guest services desks were completely unattended, housekeeping services were sparse, and the dining staff was stretched very thin. To be clear, the employees were helpful and friendly and had great attitudes, but they need more staff ASAP.
Overall I absolutely loved Stonewall and it would be my honor if those country roads take me home again to Roanoke, WV.
