Worth a visit
Called in for lunch the staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. The food was absolutely wonderful, well presented, beautifully cooked and very tasty. I can highly recommend a visit you won't regret it and will be back again.
Disappointed
We are in Wexford for a weeks holidays and this was our first meal out. We were starving after a day at the beach and started with soup; it was tasteless-not sure how someone in a kitchen would send this out! The rest of the meal was average at best, which was evidenced by the lack of patrons. Another restaurant nearby (Mary Barrys) is regularly booked out. We won't be back.
Not That Impressed
Arrived in Kilmore Quay Friday and dropped in here to book a table for 6.30. As we entered the girl behind the bar nearly had a seizure because we didnt have a mask on. Bearing in mind we had just stepped in to see if there was anyone around, and had our masks in our hands ready to don them, she was a little bit over the top. However, we decided to book and came back at 6.30. Arrived in, lots of comfortable spots to sit with nice views to choose from. Wasnt to be. We were seated on two stools, beside the bar. Still, we said ok, lets order 2 pints while we look at the menue. Barman walks the 2 feet from the bar to us, (im convinced this is why we were put there, because it was handy for the barman) and i ordered 2 pints. No, cant do that. You have to order your food first, then we will serve you. At this stage i should have really got up and left, but we were hungry and tired. Ordered a chicken curry for about 16 euro and a prawn curry for about 17 euro, which was a bit high for what it was. Got the impression the barman didnt trust us for some reason. not a nice experience, wont be back.
Really clean and well located
We spent a great weekend in one of the apartments in September. The contactless check-in worked really well, I'm sure this is reassuring for anyone who may be nervous about Covid. The two bed apartment slept 5 of us comfortably (1 double, 2 singles and a double sofa bed) and was spotless. Very well located with the local Mace only a short walk away, and the chipper, ice-cream shop and a couple of lovely cafes and restaurants only a stone's throw. We ate dinner at the Wooden House one even and while the food was fine and comparably priced to other restaurants in the area, it did seem a little expensive for the quality of the food, for example I had surf and turf and was very excited about the prawns but they were only ok, rather bland. A special mention goes out to the waiter though, very charming, welcoming and efficient. The local playground would have kept my children busy all day. Really well equipped, very clean and only a short walk from the Wooden House. But by far my favourite thing about this hotel is its proximity to the best beach we found at Kilmore Quay. Directly across the road and down the steps, this small beach really is breathtaking. The beach hosts an early morning yoga class, and plenty of people came down to the beach in their bathrobes for an early morning dip. Truly a little slice of heaven.
