Good food, Covid-safe, nice beer!
We sat outside and enjoyed fish and chips here this week. The food was excellent with generous portions, and excellent tartare sauce. A good couple of real ale options. Outside space could have done with a bit of a clean up and the tables needed a wipe down, which did happen second time of asking, but overall it was a very nice lunch stop.
Lovely pub in a lovely village
Stayed here for a couple of nights. This is a lovely old pub with some tables set in little nooks. The food was lovely and presented well. Breakfast was fantastic. The room was a good size and clean although there was a little bit of dust and cobwebs around but the carpet was well hoovered. Tea and coffee facilities topped up daily and bed remade. If you like to stay in a place where you are left in peace and quiet then this is the place for you. The bar staff were attentive and we didn’t have to wait long to give our order or have our plates cleared. I have gluten intolerance and I was well catered for and chef was very considerate of this, remembering this when preparing food. Cost of room was reasonable too. Will return.
Fantastic couple date night!!
Had the privilege of dining at this lovely pub for a long overdue date night with my wife since lockdown happened.... Couldn’t have picked a better pub which started with a warm and friendly welcome, plus a menu full of quality and variety making it difficult to choose what we fancied. Service was excellent throughout the evening but the star of the show was the quality of the food.... great tasting local produce and both of our fillet steaks were cooked to perfection. COVID precautions very much in place with decent separation of tables and a one way system in place... plus hand sanitiser readily available. A great experience and being relatively new to the area... might just make this our local!!
One to be avoided. Not covid regulation conscious, poor food and rude female staff.
Restaurant review We booked outside table for 7.30. Initially taken indoors until we asked again to sit outside. No menu offered or bought to us. Given the guidance we thought table service would be operation. We ordered food at about 7.40 after going back to the bar for menu. We had to ask for the table to be wiped. Our starter, olives and bread took 45 minutes to arrive after we again had to return to the bar to ask. We should have left at this point! When our mains arrived the food was poor to say the least. My belly pork had no crackling, just rubber I couldn’t cut. I went to the bar again to ask for a knife suitable for meat and for a spoon to serve the pale green overcooked tinned peas and watery cauliflower! I did tell the female staff at this point our experience was poor. She just said sorry I didn’t know that and carried on serving. No offer to change the food or anything. The mash tasted like smash and the sauce was greasy and generally unpleasant. I didn’t eat my meal. My husband ate his chips, which were good. His Seabass didn’t taste nice and was overcooked. He had no side veg unless I was supposed to share my small inedible portion. There was no way we were going to risk dessert! No one took our contact details. There were people standing at the bar all evening and the bar was absolutely packed when the cricket team arrived. Tables were close together. The toilets were dirty. Please note, I have raised my complaint at the pub and had they dealt with it there I probably would not have posted on TA although I do hope such reviews might help people like me select a good place to eat out. There was a male member of staff who served us who did try to apologise and bought it to the attention of the female who appeared to be in charge. She basically gave me a filthy look and looked at her colleague and rolled her eyes! She was also quite rude to my husband when he asked where our food was . The young man had been called in to work at 2 hours notice not having worked there since December. He clearly had no time to be given any kind of covid safety training. Had the food not be discounted under the help to eat scheme I would have refused to pay full price. It wasn’t worth the half price we paid. I even had to question the bill as they didn’t discount the drinks. The girl argued with me about soft drinks being included but did check another male staff member who confirmed soft drinks were included in the scheme. Other than a one way system and the toilet doors being wedged open there was absolutely no adherence to the guidance the government has put in place. Without those two features you wouldn’t have noticed any difference from an evening out pre covid. This was our first time venturing out for a meal since lockdown. If this is how pubs and restaurants are functioning no wonder our infection rate is rising. I hope most venues are doing better than this but at least people might read this and avoid this shocking example!
Food good but unfriendly member of staff. Visited only for lunchtime meal not B&B
Whether it was due to being understaffed with only one lady serving food, taking orders, drinks and bringing to tables, but we found her most unwelcoming. No greeting or smile when we arrived or paid. She did ask if the if everything was ok (which it was), when taking plates away, rather than during meal. Sadly this person (owner?) needs to get some customer service training and fast. The food was all very good so it is such a shame that we don't feel we want to go back due to the attitude of this one person.
