Disappointed in this hotel

This is my 6th night in a row at a Marriott property. Last 2 were at Fairfield inn in Louisiana and Alabama. This one is at the Fairfield inn in Winchester Virginia. From the outside hotel looks like all the fairfields. We checked in late and received what was explained to us the last available room. When we entered the room we immediately felt a musty doggy smell. We contacted the front desk and they did verify that the room had the smell but they claimed it was the chemicals used in cleaning for covid. I can assure you this was not the smell of a chemical. They informed me there were no other room for us to move to, however I pulled up a bonvoy app on my phone and was able to select another room at that hotel with new reservations for the same night. I showed this today front desk clerk but he was not very receptive. The room itself is old with peeling wallpaper and mildew around the bathtub. I was told the hotel is undergoing renovations but did not see any work being done. This is the only Marriott property I cannot recommend.
Enjoyed our weekend

I chose this hotel as they had a king room for around $80 and it was located near the interstate/restaurants/shopping etc. We decided we wanted to just “stay in” for dinner one night and easily had a papa john’s pizza delivered to our room in about an hour. The room was a little smaller than some king rooms we have stayed in - but the everything was comfortable and clean and the bathroom was large. The lobby is also large, well lit and clean and I felt safe at all times! Staff was very friendly during check in, when I went to the front desk late at night to get a soda, and when I called to double check on check out time. (I appreciated that check out time is noon - later then many places.) Note: vending is very limited and the included breakfast was a bagged granola bar, water and fruit. I understand that this is because of covid and cannot be helped. We love visiting Winchester and would stay here again!

I have been a Marriott Rewards Member for a long time. This Fairfield needs some TLC. Overall, it was the room was fantastic. There are minor repairs that need to be done. in 201, paint touchups and a nick in the headboard. The shower backsplash needs to be secured more to the wall. in 301,the chair needs to stitched. We did love the extra space.
Good example of Brand

Pleasant stay in Jan 2020. Typical Fairfield inn. All good. Close to Walmart and a shopping mall with restaurants. Hotel clean, breakfast typical. Staff friendly. Will stay again if opportunity arises.
Treats platinum members poorly

Old dated rooms. Refused to upgrade as a platinum member, said no rooms were available despite three showing on the Marriott app. Avoid this hotel as a Marriott Elite. Location is convenient to the interstate but that’s about the only good thing I can think of.
