We Love The George Washington Inn!

We stayed there three times to and from Florida. We had a king room which was very nice but totally prefer the Junior Suite with jacuzzi and freplace. It's in walking distance to the historic downtown. We highly recommend it and will go back again. Thank you!
Nice stay over in Winchester

Very nice historic hotel. Front desk staff were great; clean, comfortable room; and great location. We check in on Monday and knew that the Bar and dining room were closed but surprised to find breakfast was also unavailable on Tuesday AM. But everything worked out since we found a great breakfast at The Hideaway Cafe nearby.
Give Yourself Time to see Old Town

We stopped in Winchester as a midway stop to have Thanksgiving with family in Knoxville TN. The George Washington is a super historic building near the vintage train station which is another adorable building. We got to see and hear 2 freight trains! Old Town is just a short walk and we went to Cork St Tavern for dinner. They had fantastic Mac-n-cheese and a good selection of local craft beers. The hotel mattress and linens were great and the whole hotel was very clean. There were lovely Christmas decorations. None of the restaurants were open while we were there but we walked around in the jazz bar and looked at the photos and the murals.

This is a beautiful hotel in a great location. It’s convenient to all that Old Town Winchester has to offer. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was large with a nice shower. We stayed one night for our anniversary, and although the hotel is nicely renovated, it was a disappointing experience. The restaurant downstairs was closed for dinner on a Saturday night due to reported staffing issues. So, we had planned to get a nice dinner there and instead we ate in the bar on the main level, of which the food and drinks were just OK. They had a limited menu and they only had one server, which I felt sorry for. There was apparently a wedding reception at the hotel, and those guests seemed to be soaking up all of the resources. Furthermore, we were awakened multiple times during the night by drunk, loud wedding guests in the hallways having loud conversations and slamming doors. My recommendation to the staff is to have some specific policies for large parties regarding noise late at night. They could also offer sound machines to guests. The restaurant did offer breakfast, which was good. The website was misleading because it said the restaurant was open on weekends and closed on Mondays. We would probably not stay here again until they figure out their staffing issues. We have stayed at many hotels during Covid, and many of them are still functioning well despite the difficult circumstances. This may speak to a broader management issue. Finally, I never got a receipt for the stay. We asked the front desk when we checked in if they could credit the stay to my husbands points. Carla said she would take care of it after we checked in, but nothing ever came of it. The lady at the front desk this morning when we checked out said the same thing, that she would take care of it after we left but we still have heard nothing and have no receipt. One final observation is that the hotel parking cost $10 per day, and it should be free to guests at the hotel.
Good location, but short on staff and repairs needed in bathroom

Good location in historic Winchester and room and bed comfortable were comfortable. However, significant repairs were needed in the bathroom, including the door that would lock automatically and could not be easily opened as the locking pin wasn't engaged or working properly. It took 5 minutes of jiggling the handle from inside and outside the bathroom to get the door open. If you were traveling alone and got locked in; it could have been problematic unless you had your cell phone in the bathroom with you and could call for help. Also, the shower wand had a significant leak in the coil so it wasn't working at all. Also, short staffed and be prepared to get your luggage inside the hotel by yourself in the rain as there is no covered unloading area and no available staff to assist.
