More about the hotel
Very Disappointing
The hotel looks lovely, the room was clean and comfortable. Dinner has to be ordered via Whats App, which isn't a problem, but we ordered for 8.30pm. At 7.40 pm there was a knock at the door, 2 x pizzas and 1 x Fish and Chips. The order was correct, but nearly an hour early. We told the gentleman this and he promptly took the food back to the kitchen. At 8.30pm, he returned with all 3 meals that had been reheated. The pizza was inedible! My mother ate what she could of the fish, as she was by this point famished. But sadly, my sister and I had to go hungry. It was too late to even try to get something else. If you stay at this hotel, I wouldn't recommend food there, until their restaurant reopens.
Unpleasant stay
My family spent the night at this hotel on Monday 26th October and we booked two rooms. When we arrived there was no one on reception and so we rang the bell and waited several minutes to be greeted by a member of staff. We checked in very quickly and were given our key cards, but we was given no direction of where the rooms were and so we had to ask. We booked the hotel at late notice after seeing the photos online of the beautiful manor. However the photos are extremely misleading and the hotel/rooms we booked were very worn and in need of some desperate TLC . We actually stayed in the shabby extension off the side of the Manor in front of the carpark. The bathmat was split, the carpets were filthy and the noise from the radiators and other doors slamming kept us awake during the night so it defiantly wasn't the peaceful night we wanted before visiting the Safari Park. We used the what's app service to ask for some glasses to be brought to the room but didn't get a reply so after 45 minutes waiting i went to the reception to request them. Again no one was on reception. This is the first hotel we have stayed at where we struggled to actually find staff. We had booked our evening meal at a restaurant close by as we we knew that the bar and restaurant at the hotel was closed. However we have just seen a review below suggesting it was open for them. This seems very unfair to provide a service for one particular guest but not others. Unfortunately we didn't get our evening meal, as the restaurant we were dining at was evolved in a robbery whilst we sat waiting to order. We returned to the hotel nervous and unsettled and walked into an empty reception which made us feel uneasy that anyone could just enter the hotel as you do not require a key card to enter through the main door. Overall we are extremely disappointed with our stay and to top it all off, we then receive a parking charge. This has now been dealt with but it did give me some concerns at the time as we were unaware of any carpark restrictions at the time of checking in. I have emailed my concerns to the hotel before writing this review and they have mentioned they would provided my family with a discounted room if we was to ever return. But we would never return to this hotel after the experience we have had!! Avoid!!
Covid-19 Safe & Secure
We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights last week whilst on a coach trip of 15 and considering the covid-19 situation we thought that they coped very well with the few staff that were around. Fortunately we were able to have a full breakfast in the restaurant, which was served ready plated and on a tray. We were also lucky to be served in the restaurant for our pre-chosen evening meal. There was a good choice and the food was tasty. Our room was on the ground floor, facing the back of the hotel grounds and as it was a family room we had plenty of space and we felt that it was warm enough and also comfortable with a king-size bed. There is always going to be a certain amount of noise if guests are spending more time in their rooms, as I think, apart from us, the other guests had Grab & Go bags for breakfast and room-service for dinner. There is no porterage or leisure facilities at the moment and the bedrooms are not serviced during your stay. Again, another covid-secure practice, which we were content to go along with. We were very happy with our stay and would particularly like to give praise to Brandon, who seemed to be doing multiple tasks and always with a friendly manner. Thank you to all of the staff at this hotel, which sadly probably has to now go into lockdown again.
False Advertising.
Don't be fooled by the misleading pictures of the "Victorian Manor". The actual rooms are in a completely separate block overlooking the car park. The corridor is so dark and dingy and in desperate need of a hoover. The room was freezing cold as the central heating system is on a timer and switches off at 10pm and comes on at 7am. We were told that due to Covid, the breakfast would be left outside the room in the morning at 7am, but after waiting for over 2 hours, we went to reception to ask and they said the breakfast was served in the restaurant but unfortunately they had no more breakfast items left. We were booked in for 2 nights but we decided to check out after the 1st night as I wouldn't have been able to survive another night with no heating.
Good value and dog friendly
Spacious room with comfy bed. Great shower. Covid precautions in place but still felt welcomed. Breakfast consisted of croissant with butter and jam, cereal bar, instant porridge pot, yoghurt and orange juice, all left in a paper bag outside the door. Ideally located for visiting family and great to be able to have our dog with us.
