Fantastic value
This is a very quaint and small hotel set in the heart of the artist colony known as Worpswede. We were a group of 5 who had a great time here. The rooms are a little on the simple side but very clean and attractive. The breakfast is 8 euros and is a phenomenal breakfast at that price. The espressos and teas were great and so were the cakes. The wines were quite good, too. The staff is extremely friendly and is very welcoming. Definitely worth staying here when visiting Worpswede.
Comfortable
A lovely old place set in beautiful countryside with statuary in the garden and a very arty feel. The rooms are old-fashioned in style with antique furniture but modern bathroom. The breakfast is superb with some very lovely touches.
Perfect, stylish place
We booked this hotel based on recent Tripadvisor reviews. The experience was perfect. Contrary to many hotels, this place has personality. The original inhabitant was Hans am Ende, one of the less well known members of the "Worpsweder Schule", a group of painters and sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th century. The hotel has been kept in the style of those days, but with present-day comfort. Reception staff was informal, friendly and helpful. Our large room (nr. 32) was on the ground floor. Beds were comfortable. The bathroom of good size had a shower, no bath. Our garden terrace was shaded by a number of tall trees. Internet worked well. Breakfast in Restaurant Hans am Ende was simply luxurious, more and better than many hotels offer for twice the amount we paid. This implies that room prices here do not include breakfast. The location is next to the Barkenhoff, the home of Heinrich Vogeler, one of the best known artists of the Worpsweder Schule and which is now one of a number of small museums in Worpswede.
A fine hotel decorated nicely
The Buchenhof is on lovely, quiet, wooded grounds a short walk from Worpswede. The buildings, constructed around 1900, are decorated in a style true to the period with antiques or fine reproductions of the art nouveau and art and crafts style. Our bathroom on the other hand was entirely modern. Breakfast (included) was excellent, with a big pot of coffee with its own warmer, which is a nice touch. The attentive waitress asked if we would prefer breakfast on the lovely terrace, and if we would like a second pot of coffee (this inquiry, though seemingly obvious, is in my experience not very usual in Europe). The hotel does not serve dinner but there are many restaurant alternatives (a good Italian restaurant is right across the street). The flat screen TV was very small but otherwise OK. I couldn’t make a WIFI connection in our room, but access was open in the reception area. The art colony of Worpswede is worth a visit and the various shops and galleries are housed in beautiful homes and buildings. There are some nice walking trails in and around the town. There is a bus to Bremen right outside the hotel that runs about every two hours.
I doubt you will find better hotels in Worpswede
Just spent 5 very pleasant nights at this hotel. Staff was kind and smiling. Excellent breakfast – really good! One evening we came home, and we asked if we could have tea served in our room – we were in room 27 and 28, very nice small suites with antique looking furniture (a little kitch, but nice) very kind and good service. Excellent beds, perfect pillows and duvets – we all slept very well – nice and quite. Floor in room 28 rather squeaky, but that was no problem. They only serve breakfast and there is no room service as such (I think they did an exception, when they served tea and cake for us one evening) there is also a café in the afternoon. They can book and recommend dinner at different restaurants in Worpswede for a very reasonable price. Nice big clean rooms, TV with DVD player in both rooms. There is a sauna and you can have massage which was really professional and good. No help with the luggage, more like a private B&B then a hotel as such – but very reasonable price. Would definitely stay again, and if you are a family travelling together or friend - room 27 and 28 can be recommended, as it is very private – only two suites to use this staircase. Less then half an hour by car to Bremen.
