If Paradise was an All Inclusive...

just finished our one week stay in rubicon palace as a young gay couple (both mid 20s). heres our thoughts: pros: + staff lovely! + mikes coffee - better than starbucks. + good variety of tasty food in buffet + room was spacious, luxurious and clean + piano bar cocktails are amazing. + branded spirits included in the all inclusive + amazing variety of activities and some quality entertainment you'd happy pay for. + the app, amazing idea. cons: - reception staff rude, any problem you may have seems like a major inconvenience. - dolce vita, wouldn't recommend personally. waited 20 minutes to be seated, 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken then 30 minutes to be served bland food. food looks amazing, unfortunately taste doesn't match. - main pool closed however was plenty more pools. - wasn't able to utilise al la cartes because we left it too late to book (100% our fault). tips: > dark secret is the best cocktail, the look is deceitful. > book the al la cartes on the first night otherwise they will get fully booked. > explore the entire hotel for the hidden gems (different bars and pools) > ask for a high room with a balcony to have a good view. > walk along the promenade (or have a cocktail in the piano bar) for an amazing sunset. > dont overpack like we did, the dresscode wasn't strictly enforced when we was there. we'd recommend this hotel to anyone! definitely a 5 star hotel! there will be negatives if you look for them, that's life! remember to focus on the positives and enjoy paradise. ☀️

Quite frankly, I always feel that the best part of ANY getaway, is the people/ staff who tirelessly see to all one's needs. The young people running the place are 'second to none!!' Marta is TOTALLY BONKERS and with it, such a lovely lady, who cares SO much for me and the likes! And when I say, 'TOTALLY BONKERS,' her classes in the piscina ARE bonkers!! Finally, thanksalot to her, and her friends for helping me escape stuff at home...xx

Disappointed

There are a number of things to like about this hotel, the grounds are lovely it is quite large and sprawling. Our room was lovely and scrupulously clean. Housekeeping were marvellous…..but…..if you are a foodie beware!…. Food in the buffet is cafeteria standard at best. Lunch and dinner offered grilled fish and meat which was batch cooked and placed on the counter. Food was not hot, sauces were congealing a food probe was never seen to be used. It hadn’t been seasoned during cooking and was bland. Labelling of allergens was poor. When booking a la carte restaurants the question was asked but never referred to again!..there was no allergen information on a la carte menus. The sandwiches in the pool bar have no labels at all, and the menu descriptors staff put on counters are often incorrect. Tables were not set with salt and pepper pots, sometimes there was salt sometimes pepper sometimes both but could well be empty. I suspect there is a problem with the dishwasher as plates often still had food debris on them. Perhaps I expected too much but this hotel was marketed as a 5 star platinum resort!

Never never again

Small back story. I travelled here with my mum and step dad. He has stage 4 prostate cancer and my mum has heart issues. They wanted a lovely relaxing, top class holiday, before his cancer treatments started. This was on his bucket list bless him. I went with them to push the wheelchair, help with meds etc. They had been 10yrs ago to the same hotel for their honeymoon and had raved about how wonderful it was. Boy we’re we all in for a let down. We arrived at approx 1pm so our rooms weren’t ready yet. Fair enough, we were early. So we left our luggage at reception and headed down to lunch. At 3pm we headed back up to get our keys. We were told to wait out front and the “golf cart” would be there momentarily to take us to our rooms. After 20mins of standing outside, my step dad puffing and panting at this point, I had to go back in to ask where the heck it was. Then the receptionist called for it!!!! We made two previous stops to let other people off. The driver helped them all up to their rooms with their luggage. Finally our stop. He points at 2 flights of stairs, dumps outs our bags, and drives off. We had paid for “Privilege”, this was far from that. I had to drag 3 large suitcases up two flights of stairs, then help my stepdad and mum up. Nightmare, and an awful start to our relaxing holiday. The next morning I got up, ready to start my first full day. I had a shower, which had excellent water pressure and out on my privilege robe which was provided by the hotel. I had been wearing the same robe the night before too. I noticed a bulge in the pocket and put my hand in to investigate. I pulled out a filthy, strained, dirty thong. Obviously left by a previous hotel guest. I was totally disgusted, I actually gagged. I took said robe and thong straight up to guest relations. I was offered 3 free spa entries. Unbelievable!!!!!!! I told them to stick it. As a privilege guest I already had spa access. The queue for guest relations was huge, all complaining about cockroaches. The hotel bumps these guests up to privilege status to keep them quiet. Then the privilege guests wonder why they can’t get reservations for the restaurants! The main pool was closed for retiling, which we were aware of before going. As we had paid for privilege, we had our own pool anyway, or so I thought. The privilege pool was beyond terrible. Every floor tile was broken, we were kicking around concrete that had come out from the lack of grouting. Thee worst pool I have ever seen. The pool was dirty. It was only cleaned the day after I made a Facebook post about the dirt of the pool. There was a small pool of blood on the path. Again it was only cleaned after I wrote about it. 4 days the blood sat there!!!! The hotel uses an awful app system for privilege guests. You must book all your meals beforehand. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Couldn’t even eat in the oriental or American as they were pre booked up! My mum was glad I was there as she said she would never have been able to work it out alone. Hardly older age friendly. If you buffet you eat when you like, no booking required. But that has its own hazards. My step dad witnessed a lady out too much lettuce on her plate, grab a pile with her hand and stick it back in the buffet. The Italian, Dolce Vita, never changed its lunch or dinner menus and had no specials. The Volcano tried so hard to serve posh food but it was severely lacking. Cod and peas is cod and peas, no matter how fancy you word it. The breakfast were nice, but the eggs were never cooked correctly. If the white is runny, it’s not cooked!!!! There was broken glass on the steps to my room, it was never cleaned. My balcony had been recently painted and they just painted over the poor plants and fencing. I had 3 cockroaches in my room, as did my mum. I came in from dinner on my last night to find one crawling over my toothbrush. My mum was covered in bites! The hotel told my mum they would fumigate the room, we were told to vacate both rooms immediately. 2hrs later they send a maid with a spray can of bug killer. Hardly fumigated! The spray smelt awful! My step dad had COPD on top of the cancer, he couldn’t breathe. What were they thinking!!!?? The best thing about this hotel? The taxi to the airport! Never never again.
