Well worth a stay

After staying in the Malmaison York this place was breath of fresh air. Great restaurant cooking from fresh. We had a lovely steak night and then Breakfast was superb. A big well done to Jonah and his team. Room was very clean with lovely decor. Friendly staff and would definitely return

A hidden gem

This hotel is somewhat of a hidden gem, situated in a quiet area outside of the city with picturesque surroundings, ideal for those taking advantage of the on site golf course or those seeking a quiet break. I’ve stayed in several of the rooms but highly recommend the two suites, well worth the money and two of the largest rooms I’ve stayed in, more on par with a five star establishment! There was a full sized seating area, a separate desk area, a balcony and a ridiculously comfortable bed. Communal areas were clean and spacious and the bar was reasonably priced. The staff were clearly carefully selected, extremely professional and keen to help. The only two constructive points I would suggest would be the inclusion of a spa / gym which would fit in perfectly with the hotels country location, and the addition of room service for the lazy guest. Regardless, if you’re visiting York and don’t fancy the city centre, this hotel is a great option.

Really pleasant place to stay and eat

My wife and I stayed for two days in early March 2022. We stayed on the Dinner Bed and Breakfast offer, in a Lake View room. The hotel building is new, opened about a year ago. The furnishings are of high quality, with much use of wood. The room was large, well equipped and with a lake view (as booked). We had a terrace but it was too cold to sit outside. The restaurant is in a block built earlier. You have to walk outside about 100m from the hotel building. The deal we were on allows £30 per person per night on food (not including drinks). We didn't actually reach the limit either day. The menu was interesting and good, Service was very good. Breakfast was in the restaurant and with an extensive buffet. The complex is attached to a golf club and in extensive grounds - you could spend a few hours just doing the walks. All in all we had very pleasant experience staying there, and would definitely recommend it to anybody wanting to stay in a quiet location. Our only criticism is the satnav, we approached the hotel from the north and the satnav directed us to an entrance that is closed - with a notice saying that the satnav is wrong - but offering no help as to how to get to the hotel. Our advice is to approach the hotel from A64 York to Malton road.

Beautiful Hotel

Our one night stay at Sandburn Hall was a pleasure as we enjoyed a restful night in a spotlessly clean room that was well fitted out. The dinner in the restaurant was expensive for what it was and our food was slightly over cooked for our taste. Pub Grub food at a premium price. Breakfast was also disappointing with congealed scrambled eggs, dried out bacon that had been on display too long and tasteless black pudding. The hotel staff were charming, helpful and knew what they were doing but the same could not be said about the chef.

Third visit to this hotel fantastic place rooms amazing and spotlessly clean beautiful grounds to wandering around weather permitting lots of wildlife. Staff great nothing to much trouble. Tykes breakfast and staff good lots of choices vegetarian sausage cooked to order even tho not on menu. Looking forward to next visit. Keep up good work with this amazing hotel.
