Overnight Stay
Thought we would stay in historic accommodation for our visit to York and picked settlers top shelf room, "deluxe". Was in original building so historic I guess but room was definetly showing its vintage. It was a place to sleep but nothing special. My wife was put off my the wooden toilet seat, bit dated and definetly not hygenic. It was a Thursday night but bar and restaurant not open, COVID was the excuse so went elsewhere for meals and drinks. When we arrived at our room tere bags of laundry waiting to be taken away near the doorway, not a good look. When we left there were the domestics cleaning trolley parked right outside our door as if waiting for us to leave. Doubt I would stay again.
Sad demise
Looking forward to returning to Settlers House did not turn out like we had hoped. The new building behind the old Settlers complex is crude and uncomfortable. The sound insulation between rooms is non existent and you can hear everything (and unfortunately we mean "everything"). The so called balcony had no furniture to sit outside and so we had to pinch some from another room, which in turn was taken by someone else in a different room. We were unlucky to get a very loud aggressive couple next door who were awake all night and even went out several times during the night which made us quite worried. We did complain to management the next morning but they really didn't give a stuff because that room next to ours is leased by another company. Please avoid Settlers House if possible, there are plenty of other good rooms available in town. Not quite the romantic return to Settlers house we had hoped for. On the plus side the people of York are so friendly and love to tell you about the history of the town
Comfortable Bed in Room over 100 years old
Room had been modrnized but I would say was done some time a go . The bed was comfy the shoer water was hot and the Aircon Worked . Restaurant meal in the evening was good wholesome food . We didn't eat Breakfast or any other meals.
Lunch only
Dropped in for lunch and it was very good. Lovely outdoor area to sit and enjoy the atmosphere of by gone days. Owner very friendly and aware of the history surrounding the area. Stocks available for any one that misbehavies. Good selection of beer including Guinness which one of our party gave them lesson on how to pour. Hope to return one day and spend the night.
Zero customer service
Rolled up at 4pm to check in and was basically ignored for ten minutes while staff made coffees, served alcohol for ppl in the courtyard. When they finally got to us they said the room wasn’t ready despite a 2pm check in. Said they would take “ten minutes” to clean it. Seriously. Do they even clean it? Was made to feel like it was my fault that the room wasn’t ready. Zero apologies given but thankfully got money back.
