central location, extremely limited parking

Reviewed 21 september, 2022

came here with my friend for a night out in the town, i drove as website stated there was parking, there is 10 spaces including disabled for the whole hotel, i was extremely lucky to just catch a space otherwise we would have had to go park elsewhere and pay which is a bit annoying. None the less we went to go check in, receptionist was very dull and didn't know what she was talking about ( was told she was going to charge me £50, i asked what this was for and she just said a deposit... i said i had already paid on booking.com to what she replied saying it still has to be charged, no explanation etc- luckily my friend who was with me had stayed at holiday inn before and told me this would be refunded after our stay- the young brown hair girl didn't have a clue and was not welcoming in the slightest). Also asked her for the wifi password and she looked hesitant to give me it before 2pm when we could check in, luckily younger boy came over and gave me it before she had the chance to say no. Got to room to check in and realised there was horrible sour smell, unpacked to realise that after walking round the side of the bed the carpet was soaking, socks were ringing and had to bin them we were disgusted as looked like someone had been sick and they had tried to clean it but was still mostly there. Friend went down to reception to ask if we could change room and manager wasn't the freindliest about it, they sent someone up to check and gave us a new room which was much cleaner and smelled nicer however due to messing around changing rooms this made us hour late for our dinner booking. The hotel is very noisy so just keep in mind if you have kids, was fine for us as we were up late having some drinks anyway. Breakfast was decent with fairly good options. Unsure if i would stay here again, probably if i was getting train as parking situation ideal and staff not the most welcoming,.

Not up to the usual standards.

I had not stayed here since before covid but this hotel was my 'go to' when staying in Aberdeen for business. However, my recent stay was not up to the usual standards. So much so, that I have cancelled an upcoming stay here next week and booked somewhere else. Firstly, the NCP car park being closed on Chapel St is a disaster. This basically means no parking facilities nearby except 'on street' parking which is a nightmare (difficult to find a space, can only stay there for a limited time, very expensive). I appreciate this is no fault of the hotel itself but and extreme inconvenience nonetheless. The issues I had with the hotel were: 1. The cleanliness of the room. It was clear the carpet had not been hoovered as there were various pieces of debris laying on the floor, including a small, sharp piece of plastic which I happened to stand on and cut the sole of my foot, albeit very minor, not what you would expect. 2. Breakfast was very busy and whatever staff were there, seemed to be struggling to keep up. Tables were not cleared, items and food were not being replenished quickly enough. Again, not the standards that I have experienced here previously. I will return and use this hotel again, but definitely not until the NCP car park has re-opened. Hopefully by that point they have upped their game.

One night stay

Check in was smooth and easy, I stayed in a twin bedded room with my daughter on the 4th floor room was lovely and clean. Towels were provided along with tea making facilitie. Beds were comfy. Breakfast was not as expected arrived in the breakfast area just before 8, no bread available or hot options. Coffee machine had also ran out. Cereal was available. The staff were working hard replenishing and cleaning tables. Eventually bread appeared but no tongs to select slices so everyone was digging there hands in. Bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs appeared. No sign of pastries or croissants as advertised. There was Eventually fruit and yogurt.

Don’t expect free or any parking

Reviewed 15 august, 2022

Arrived late afternoon after a 7 hour road journey. Entered the car park to find several vehicles occupying 2 spaces and no vacant space. Parked in a bay (which i learnt later was for housekeeping trolleys) to go to reception and find out where to park. Was told, “no you can’t park there, there’s double yellow lines”. “You can park in the multi-storey car park” waving her arms in some direction. When told that the website states free parking, the receptionist told me that’s wrong, “we have limited free parking”. We immediately left, this is not what i expect from any hotel hotel let alone an IHG one. BTW it states “free car parking” on many websites for this hotel.

Avoid if you have a car & children 🫣

No air con. No travel cots for babies. No parking. Really disappointing, couldn’t accommodate our family of 4 as they said they couldn’t give us a travel cot. 10 parking spaces for hotel? We spent an hour trying to sort this before having to leave. No air con in room. Just a really rubbish experience.
