The Shores are not worth it

This review is specifically for The Shores condominiums. We were very disappointed to find they weren’t on the resort property. You have to drive over a mile or take their shuttle. There are no posted times for the shuttle that we saw when we checked in so we asked at the front desk. She said it was on demand. We have an electric car and thought we’d leave it plugged in overnight and take the shuttle to our room. When we checked back a little after 10 we were told they had stopped service for the night. The room itself was clean and seemed nice enough until we got ready to shower the next morning. The bathroom is in serious need of a touch up. The shower head sprayed in several directions. We asked for a new room and we’re notified by text when it was available. This was fine since we had plans for the day. The new room was nice. Still at the Shores on the ground floor with a view of the tiny creek. The next day my husband noticed an additional charge on our credit card. When they switched rooms they double booked us. An easy mistake, but it took two days plus a phone call after we got home to get it resolved. The front desk staff is friendly enough, but they need more training. Claire was the only one who knew her way around the reservation system beyond the standard booking.

The resort is a beautiful setting. The room that we stayed in was very basic. There was no refrigerator or microwave. The toilet had a ring in it (like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while). The sink leaked behind the faucet when it was turned on. The thermostat was not adjustable and it was set at 61 degrees. The ice machine on the floor we stayed on didn’t work. There is no housekeeping service currently. For the cost of this hotel it’s hard to see the value and feel as though you are getting your money worth.
Not worth the hassle

Save your money and stay at another area hotel! My lovely wife planned a birthday getaway this weekend, we left disappointed with my wife in tears. Let's start out with the resort had a convention this weekend and didn't have the foresight to reserve parking for the hotel guests. Wonder if they charged the convention attendees a resort fee? I was forced to park at the clubhouse and hike back and forth just to get to the hotel. The staff was useless in helping with the parking situation I did ask. So after parking, hiking back to the hotel after a 3-hour drive, we had a reservation at The Den for lunch and ax throwing. The plan was to grab lunch and a drink which would put us around check-in time. Well, plans change since The Den didn't have any food or beverages, staffing issues I was told. Nothing is mentioned on the website either. I was told that Jack's on the other side of the lobby had food and drinks though. That is after the clock was ticking away on our 60 minutes of ax throwing time. So I ran down to Jack's just to inquire about ordering some food to bring back. I stood there for 5 minutes with another lady looking for an employee and no joke it was devoid of staff. Fast forward a few hours and our room was ready after "final inspection" that is. So happy to be in our bay view tower room for a drink and snacks that we packed. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful fall colors seven stories in the air hoping the worst was behind us. That's until I had a moment to relax before our 7 pm Aerie reservation and jumped in the lounger sofa only to be stabbed by a thousand petrified shards of pizza crust from the night before. Guess anyone can miss that on the final inspection... So it's dinner time and we arrive at Aerie a little early only to be greeted by no one? After standing there for a few minutes staring at the back of the heads of the other diners waiting for a greeter to show up we baled to the bar. After being annoyingly ignored for a few minutes we were served a nasty old-fashioned and a glass of wine 15 minutes into our stay. The good news is that would mean our table was ready? Guess again folks after being told our table should be ready over an hour after our scheduled reservation we left to wait in our room for the call our table was ready. The call never came so we ended up ordering a pizza for delivery so I didn't have to hike to the car yet again. After finishing our pizza/dinner watching Back to the Future I was hoping to salvage the evening and maybe go to the casino, after all my wife spent an hour getting ready for the evening. Nope..... she's had enough it's time for bed, tomorrow will be better, let's just sleep in. Unfortunately, the staff didn't hear that conversation and inadvertently checked us out causing housekeeping to blast the door open at 8:50 AM scaring the "F" out of us before we even got out of bed. That was definitely enough, we packed up and ran out of the hotel never to return. We even canceled our reservation for the NYE party at the resort that we booked last week. They can't handle eleven people at Aerie for dinner, how do they expect to manage an event like that? The best part is after explaining why I was canceling for NYE they still charged me a $25 cancellation fee. That's their policy after all......

The hotel is unclean, dirty, paint chipping in room, smudges on wall, ringstain in toilet and in the shower. Misleading ad, there are not 5 restaurants available. Only bar food. Front desk staff impolite, not helpful when asked for info. Front desk person said she did not live in Michigan and she not able to help with info on the TART trails. (?) Not enough elevators, and very slow. 3 luggage carts for whole hotel. Not sure how it can be called a Resort....Like a mid level hotel chain
Poor room; no staff interest

Arrived Labor Day; short staffed- ended up with no meal. Front desk did not explain key usage of our building. Dirty carpet, repairs with no follow thru to lobby, elevator, Room VERY tired, old toss pillows, no make-up or floor length mirror, shower head did not adjust, screen door to balcony did not work, housekeeping never dusted window sill across from our room and dead lady bug there whole stay. Biggest concern was Mgr Scott Firman who had no follow-up interest in our concerns. One would think before concerns like we had were turned over to rating social media, he would want to acknowledge or express concern. Multitude of emails (with photos) were met with limp responses to ‘check it out’. He never did.
