Way below expectations

Reviewed 2 october, 2022

Way below expectations! We have booked a room with all-inclusive but firstly the room is too dark, one of the light bulbs has been broken so only one has been working, there are no beach towels available if you need one you must rent them from the local shop(mini market ) or an extra €4, once you left the room there is no electricity in the fridge, therefore everything you have left is getting worm; drinks during dinner are rubbish it's more watery and doesn't even have a taste of real juice more as made of powder same about beer and other drinks; if you need extra ice in a drink unfortunately during dinner is not available; there are no small things such as a cup or plate in the room only soap available, and the shower isn't working properly. There are no beds for you next to the water if you are willing to get one you will be charged €5 per bed per day The environment is old and needs restoring, The swimming pool could be cleaned up more often, The water in the pool is salty, There are no activities in the hotel No signal in the rooms at all, wifi is only available at the reception, Evening entertainment is very poor Food is pretty much the same every day Please be advised there will be an additional Government fee that is not included in the price &you will have to pay on our last day. Only the view in this place nothing when close to 4**** hotel.

Very accommodating hotel with access to the beautiful Kalypso beach!

We didn't actually stay here, but there is still good reason to review the hotel. We traveled by bus from Rethymno to Plakias, and then took a taxi to Kalypso Beach because after seeing pictures I wanted to go here badly. The hotel doesn't actually require you to stay with them, it will only cost you 8 or 10 euros to claim 2 seats and an umbrella. The beach isn't for everyone, but it is a stunning little cove that has clear waters and is great for diving as well as protected open sea swimming. It isn't the easiest to reach, which is why the hotel's being so accommodating is greatly appreciated. We hard a very hard time getting a taxi from Plakias and the friendly front desk made sure to order one for us back.

The most beautiful beach

Wonderful Holiday! The location and the beach is absolutely breathtaking, highly recommended if you are look to go somewhere secluded and intimate, away from hustle and bustle. Although it states on the websites that the hotel is family friendly I wouldn’t personally take small children there due to very rocky surrounding and steep walkways. Yes, like some reviews mentioned - there is room for improvement BUT, if you go to Kalypso you are not staying at corporate chain. The team seemed like a big family and we felt like we were invited to be part of that family during our stay. From the restaurant and bar team who knew our drink orders before we even asked to the housekeeping ladies, the maintenance manager with his groovy dance, Elenie and the other ladies at reception, Lucia at reservations are all wonderful assets to the manager Vasilis who all went above and beyond to make sure we have the best, most comfortable stay. We are looking forward to visiting again!

Maybe the best place one earth

Best place to spend the day! The whole day actually. We didnt stayed there for the night, so we don't know anything about services inside. The beach is small and intimate. The view of the sea is like you arrived at the end of the world. Very special place! In the water are many sea animals and you can see them even without special equipment. The price was about 8 euros for one sunbed. 10/10 worth vising!

Quiet location, beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff - no party, no luxury rooms

The Kalypso hotel is redommendable for its locatoin. It's located on its own shore, has an own cliff bay for bathing and the view is stunning. And it's really quiet. There is a walking path and you are within 25 minutes at another gravel beach. For 8 Euros you can go by taxi to Plakias city for shopping or for the sandy beach or taverns. At the hotel itsself there is only a small mini-market for daily goods like water and toothpaste. At the reception you can book trips to Santorini, Samaria, Chania and many more or you can rent a car. The open areas and the bungalows with 2 appartements each are furnished nicely and the cleaning was okay. The room maids did a good job and gave us toilet paper even on days we didn't want to be disturbed. I liked the canopy beds in the room. What I didn't like was the mold in the room. That's often the case in Greece and Spain, even within 4 star hotels. You don't want to air the room because of the 36 degrees outside and so the humidity stays in the room and mold grows. The air conditioning worked perfectly, which is essential in August. Three pools (two of them in cool infinity-style) and the bay are space enough for the hotel guests. It's nice to snorkel because of the fishes and you can learn scuba diving. The food (buffet in the morning and evening, greek dishes, HP or AI) were delicious and the staff very friendly. The cocktails at the pool bar tasted awful. The guests were very mixed (spanish, greek, french, germans, polish, british,..). The reception is open 24 hours and the lady with the golden glasses was so nice. She showed us everything and was very helpful.
