The views of the temple from this property are why the hotel can exist. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. The hotel is pretentious and needs to be thoroughly updated. The hotel doesn't seem to care - as though guests are a problem for them. The shower flooded the floor, the locks were broken in the spa, the woman at the front desk woman was constantly rude and the staff was very stiff. This property could be so wonderful with their stellar view. Sadly, it was not worth the cost.

WHAT A ** JOKE! This is what I am sure Gordon Ramsey would say if he went to this place! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with disdain and aside from two wait staff this was the main theme from the majority of staff. We had three nights booked and we left in under 24 HOURS!! This is NOT a 5 star Hotel in anyway shape or form. You are paying for the view of the temple that is it. The rooms are not clean, outdated and amenities are basic like a premier inn airport hotel, bed extremely uncomfortable and service slow. Food is expensive, average and I found a hair in mine! The emphasis at this hotel is to be pretentious and this is the embodiment of the hotel manager Giuliano Castiglia! Poor service from the manager, no apology, no refund, no accountability and no idea about customer service! Save your money and stay elsewhere! I will be placing my review on as many platforms as possible with photos to give people thinking of staying here a clear picture of what they are paying for.

A privilege to stay

WOW! We booked this hotel for two nights since our original plans changed and we are delighted we did. Succinctly, the house and room were excellently furnished and maintained, the food for each evening dinner was superb, the staff impeccable and demonstrated a real passion for working at the hotel, and of course the views of the temples (particularly after dark) divine. We consider it a real privilege to have stayed. Top tip: Buy your ticket to visit the temple complex from the hotel, use their private entrance, visit between 4pm - 7pm (which is plenty of time) once the many tour and student groups have long gone, read the sign boards and avoid the cost of a guide. You may not have the place entirely to yourself, but it will be much quieter and cooler.

You can’t beat the views from this hotel. It’s inspiring and beautiful and such an incredible privilege to see these temples. The hotel itself is fantastic— the quality of in-room amenities was impeccable, the beds were comfortable and the room was spotless. The hotel staff were universally courteous and kind. From the front desk team to Antonio in the restaurant, it felt like we were genuinely welcomed and cared for. Speaking of the restaurant— it completely dazzled. The food was perfectly executed, creative and clever. From the tomato compound butter styled as a tomato, to the spicy golden apple dessert, this restaurant is such a treat. It was a perfect stay at Hotel Athena, and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

My husband, teenage son and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Villa Athena. The views and location are the best in Agrigento. We had a wonderful tour guide and enjoyed our one night stay. The rooms are simple - they'll probably need an upgrade soon but they are very comfortable, clean, well stocked bathroom with lots of fluffy towels and luxury shampoos and soaps. Food was very good and service was friendly. You're not there for the food or service, but they are very good anyway.
