Worst experience ever.
Worst experience ever. We booked a room, and it was a nightmare. Broken furniture, stains on the bed, living insects. We decided not to stay. They refused to refund price for 1 night, 87 euros. We were trying to solve situation with booking.com where booking was done, they just passed the solution from the property management.
Clean and modern hotel
I stayed at Joy hotel on business. The rooms are small but very well designed, you don't notice the size. Everything was clean and modern, the hotel seemed almost newly built. The service was good, I checked in fairly late and it was quick and easy, though being told "please don't use drugs in the hotel" I found somewhat insulting, but it's Amsterdam at the end of the day. At around 10PM I was a little hungry so decided to try to find some food, the hotel has vending machines in the lobby, although they have two machines, they both have the exact same selections, pointlesss IMHO. There selection of snacks on offer doesn't rival other 3 star hotels in Amsterdam. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you are planning on a late night case of the munchies. Also, the machines only take cash, It's almost 2020 and virtually every vending machine these days takes contactless payment. There is also NO ATM NEARBY, you need to take the metro to the stadium at the next stop walk to the ATM and get the metro back, not something I wanted to do after a long day. So I resorted to ordering some food on Deliveroo; there are three 24hr takeaways nearby which was handy but expect to pay at least 20 quid. Transport wise, it's not too bad. You can take a direct metro 54 (IIRC) to Centraal, or change at Amstel and take the tram if you want a particular location. Travel time is around 30 minutes. 24hr travel card is 8 quid. All in all I would probably stay here again, though not my first preference.
They wanted to be 3*, and achieved that objective
This hotel experience can be summed up with three examples ... 1. The Guest Guidelines, that piece of paper that you get when you arrive, contains the normal information, breakfast at 7, parking arrangements, etc, and surprisingly a request that in addition to not smoking in the room that you don't use Nitrous Oxide either. (That is a new piece of information on a welcome sheet, and begs the question - who normally stays there?) 2. A conversation with the Reception staff. Customer - "There is only tea in the room, someone forgot to leave any coffee". Reception - "No mistake, the owner wants this to be a three star hotel. There is a coffee machine in reception, and it's €2 per cup" 3. The Air Conditioning is turned off. The heating is turned up. The hotel is on the flight path for Schiphol. So, the only way to get a good night's sleep in a cool room, is to open the window, and hope that the planes are quiet. I've given this hotel 2 out of 5, as they are cheap; want to be three star; and hit that objective.
Beautiful
Clean rooms, outstanding service and fair pricing. Stayed with my girlfriend. Close proximity to a train station. Mcdonalds right around the block. Parking was easy and they let us park the whole day even though we checked out in the morning. This allowed us to have a one more day visiting things around town.
Small hotel rooms
Stayed here with my husband. This hotel is quite far out from city centre!!! Very close to the metro station(about 4 min walk) but 20 mins from there to central station on metro. Rooms small but very clean. Bed extremely comfortable. No additional bits in hotel. Tea/coffee facilities but no milk or water provided. No little toiletries provided. Shower gel in dispenser on the wall, same as hand soap!!! I requested shower cap but none available. Rooms well serviced daily. However no additional toilet roll given. Meaning we ran out on our last morning!!! Very basic. Bar closed by 11.30-12.00 every night. Tea/coffee vending machine and treats and drinks machine in reception. Not suitable for people that like to return to hotel for a while during the day!!!! Not possible as out too far. However we found it did the job but would not stay here again mainly due to distance. Continental breakfast available for €12.50 but we did not avail of this. Staff were pleasant.
