I stayed at the recently “renovated” hotel for a Michigan football game. The convenience of location was the draw. The reviews had me hesitant. The hotel clearly had been renovated somewhat; however, the rooms are still somewhat dated when it comes to furnishings and carpet. There is a very strong smell of chlorine throughout the hotel. The price was a few times what the room should typically cost and definitely not worth it ! I would expect to pay 489.00 per night for a 5 star, not a holiday inn express. The most disappointing was the double charge still appearing on my credit card. I was charged the day prior to my stay (the last day I could cancel the room) and then again at check in. I made 3 calls to the hotel before contacting my card company who is currently looking into the disputed charges. Had this been a bank card, this could have caused major issues. I have read reviews of this happening to other guests and would have figured the hotel would have figured out the root cause by now !
Why is it the toilet doesn’t work?

The first impression is the entryway with dirty windows scratched paint on the doors an old tape stuck to the windows. And just to the exterior there is a bunch of cigarette butts all over the ground and the trash cans look like they’re 40 years old. The lobby area seemed very messy. My room was OK first impression was good but then I found out my toilet would not flush in the middle of the night. I thought I was doing something wrong but nope, it just wouldn’t flush, beautiful. Tried to work the blinds on the window I guess I need a little WD-40 because they were so difficult even a grown man could barely move them up or down. Pretty disappointed in this place. A little extra care and let’s play should be pretty nice.

This is our third stay at this property while visiting University of Michigan. With each visit our experience here worsens. Hotel is incredibly short staffed and obviously trying to cut any services where it can. There is no AC in hallways or elevator and on a day that has a feels like temp of 99 degrees it is much noticed. On this visit our room has several issues and although the very limited staff tries best to solve problems and to run the property, it is far too much for the understaffed hotel. Stays here are not worth any cost savings or IHG points (we are spire elite). On this visit our room had several issues. Lights not working, ac barely cooling. Toilet clogged prior to our arrival and resulted in an overflow. Front desk staff handled the problem as no other staff on duty in early evening to take care of it. Staff tended (2x)to it but there is still remnants of the overflow stuck to the bathroom floor. The tub desperately needs to be replaced and is in terrible condition. Room did not have linens for the sofa bed in the room (reserved a 2 queen room and room given at check in may have been an upgrade to a “suite” style with 1 bed and sofa bed but no mention of it at check in) . We needed the 2nd bed for my daughter but made due since she was with us only one night. Lots of trash left in hallways and outside the property. Asked for a glass from the bar but the front desk personnel refused to let us have one due to “covid.” I’m more concerned about the bathroom floor here than Covid. Don’t expect much if you decide to stay here, it’s not the fault of the staff, the company running this hotel needs to wake up. We’ve given it three tries, were out.
Disappointing service from arrival to departure

When we checked in, I stood in front of the young lady looking at her computer for a minute to a minute and a half then she said "Hang On" (please bear in mind I had not yet spoken), so I stood there with my wallet in hand for at least 2 more minutes then she said, "Name?" WOW! Now I'm blown away, but I give her my name. Then she said, "ID?" At he counter 5 minutes and she said HANG ON, NAME, and ID!!! Anything after this is all down hill! She never once said anything like Welcome to...; Thank you.... etc. etc. but very mater-of-fact she handed me my keys, pointed to the elevator, and told me where to park! I have been an IHG member for a very long time and never have I been treated so poorly.
Friendly staff with great breakfast

I spent a week here for business. The room was clean and amenities nice. The hotel was undergoing a transformation from Holiday Inn to Hilton. It has close access to the interstate. The breakfast buffet was very nice with great service, it is not included with the room (maybe $10). I would stay here again.
